I am a college INSTRUCTOR. I have a Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering. Ususally, professors hold a Doctorate degree at a minimum. This may be different for fields other than engineering, but PROFESSORS in engineering ALWAYS have a PhD, otherwise they are like myself, and INSTRUCTOR. As for medical degrees, I know that they have a minimum of 7 years of college. In engineering, it takes a minumum of 4 years undergraduate, 2 years graduate, and 3 years doctorate level work to receive a PhD. I hope this helps.

A professor with a doctorate degree usually attended four years to get the bachelors, and three more for the Phd with some courses and a big paper (dissertation) to write.
A doctor gets the bachelors in four years, has about three years of medical school, then about three years of residency??
