I've not seen the movies,,,but Sci Fi writers and songwriters, poet and Kings, have stolen from the bible, since time began. What else is new....where do you think the idea for Superman came from?

Just a few zillion... along with every other literary epic in the last 15 or 20 centuries. For an excellent discussion of this, have a look at Joseph Campbell's book, "The Hero With A Thousand Faces." The guy was brilliant, and his work will knock your socks off in the most genteel way possible. George Lucas was one of his students! :-)

Yes.

Both have good overall story arcs--the epic feel of it, lots of characters, blood and guts, romance, wacky sidekicks etc.

On the down side, both epics are really lacking when it comes to the fine details. For example, why was Obi Wan so old in Episode 4 compared to Episode 3--only 18 years had passed. And, is it "an eye for an eye" or are we supposed to "turn the other cheek"?
Very confusing and require a LOT of suspension of disbelief

Toaism too =)

Anakin was said to be immaculately conceived, to fulfill prophecy as "the chosen one", and bring and end to the evil Empire and bring hope to the galaxy.

Episode 4 was titled "A New Hope", which may or may not have been intentionally analogous to Jesus.

George Lucas incorporated Buddhist and Toaist philosophy into Yoda's character, and the doctrines of the Jedi religion.

"Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter..."

Also in the Matrix movies. It is a common theme, used in may movies, books, etc. through out time. Even the bible copied the theme from far earlier religious stories such as Mithra.

Star Wars uses a lot of mythological symbolism - it's a classic heroes journey.
