I recon there are various levels of Christianity.
At the very bottom are those who think they're Christian because they're nice people, go to church on Christmas and Easter and don't swear too much. But in the end they'll be sorely disappointed.
Then there's the Christian who gave his life to Jesus for real, but never did much after that. He'll make it to heaven, but by the skin of his teeth.
And we certainly can't forget the righteous Christian who knows he's a sinner and proves it every day. He's forgiven, yes, but he spends so much time bouncing back and forth between the Outer Court and the Inner Court that he never sees the Holy of Holies.
Last we have the Daniels, the Shadrachs, the Meshach and the Abednegos who really understand who God is and cherish their relationship with Him by continually blessing His Holy Name.
What Jesus had to say to the seven churches in Revelation 2 and 3 should give us pause to reflect on just what kind of Christian we are.

If you have been born again you are a Christian, if the Holy Spirit lives within you then you are a Christian, if you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ you are a Christian. Do you feel a love in your heart for Jesus? Do you have a peace in your heart when you are in the Church? Love, joy and peace accompany a real Christian where ever he goes. If you are saved then you know what I am talking about, you will want to follow the teachings of Jesus if you are saved, Of course we all still sin and batttling the devil is a constant thing because he is always pulling us down but all who are saved put up a fight, and we sin we ask God to forgive us and we get back up and fight again, Just because we say we are Christian doesn't make us one. The church is full of Sunday morning Christians. Do you pray during the week? Do you read your Bible during the week? If you don't your salvation may have a problem, talk to your pastor, don't let the old devil drag you down, here is a sinners prayer of faith, read this and think about it, if you are not sure use this prayer to make the commitment to Christ right now, just pray Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

James 2:19 says “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!” The type of “belief” demons have can be compared to the intellectual assent made by those who “believe” in Jesus only in the fact that he exists. Many unbelievers say “I believe in God,” or “I believe in Jesus,” or perhaps some might say “I prayed a prayer and the preacher said I was saved.” The problem is in the understanding of the word “believe.” With true salvation comes genuine repentance and real life change. Second Corinthians 5:17 tells us that when we are in Christ, we are a “new creation.” Is it possible that the new person Christ creates is one who continues to walk in the carnality of the flesh? It is not.
Salvation is certainly free, but at the same time, it costs us everything. We are to die to ourselves as we become more and more changed into the likeness of Christ. Where easy believism fails is in its lack of recognition that a person who has truly believed in Jesus as the Savior will have a progressively changed life.

Jesus said that we needed to pick up our cross and follow him. Yes, it is enough to believe in him...but belief isn't a thought, it is an action. Believing in Jesus means accepting what he said.
Some might argue that I'm suggesting that salvation comes through works rather than faith but that isn't the case at all...I'm saying that both are required...one without the other is dead. The term Christian means follower of Christ...you can't follow someone if you aren't moving...and movement represents action not faith!
For me, being a Christian means seeking to do the will of the father by following the example set by Jesus. Being a Christian doesn't mean that I can sin with impunity...it means that I need to use every resource (body, mind, spirit) I have at my disposal to avoid sin...and when I mess up, admit it and ask for his help...again and again and again! God knows that we aren't capable of being perfect...that's why he sent Jesus...to show us that what matters to him is that we keep trying instead of giving up when we stumble.

Being a Christian and living a Christian life are two separate things. To be a Christian is to understand that you are morally guilty (read:imperfect) before a just and moral (read:perfect) God and that He has done something to close the gap between. You believe that Christ, God's son who was also God, died and rose to life on account of your imperfection and understand that it is by God's gift that you are saved.
Living a christian life is to take on the likeness of Christ, like it says in Romans 8:29. Learning to love God and others like Christ himself.

there is no SOLID answer on anything religious- especially christianity.
the BEST way to live and to enjoy your life is to do what makes you happy, do not harm others physically or emotionally, help others when you can and do the best you can in every area of your life.
this is the answer to life's happiness.
some of the most devout religious people are secretly some of the most depressed and angry people on the earth because they never feel as if they have done well enough to please their "god" because they ALWAYS have to ask for FORGIVENESS for being simply a HUMAN.
As for "giving your heart to god..." What you really need to do is give your heart to the people around you who you love and who love you. Believe in YOURSELF before anyone or anything else.
any religious book (Bible included) has been written by people- yes, by sinners *gasp.* Just use your best judgement and strive to do your best and you will have a peaceful life.

What we do know as modern Christianity would be in violation of the Laws of God, and be in contradiction to the 'teachings of "Jesus".
Hosea 13:2 Human Sacrifice---ABOMINATION
Jeremiah 32:35 Sacrificing upon High Places, like Mt. Calvary---Abomination
Leviticus 7:22/ Hos 8:13 Communion---ABOMINATION
Deuteronomy 13/ Matthew 23:15 Converting People—Abomination
Deut 4:15-16 Defining ‘Jesus’ as god--ABOMINATION
Much of what is known as Christianity does stem from the teachings of 'Paul', who according to the Laws of God, Deuteronomy 13, would be a 'false prophet'. Basically, anyone that says that you don't have to follow the Laws of God AND advocates an OTHER god, like 'Paul' does with 'Jesus', they are a 'false prophet'. "Paul" repeatedly says it, one reference--Rom 10:4 “For Christ is the end of the law, that everyone who has faith will be justified.”
Which is NOT what 'Jesus' said...
Mat 19:17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.”
Mat 5:18-19 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven
Christianity also stems from the precepts of man, the roman councils that did define Christianity...here are a few...
325CE Council of Nice Promotion of the Goodman: Christ is Divine
363CE Council of Laodicea names 26 New Testament books as "inspired word of God"; Book of Revelation is excluded. When Emperor Constantine ordered 50 copies of the Bible to be copied, they included The Letter of Barnabas and The Shepard of Hermes -- two books that do not appear in today's Bibles. It took Revelations another 30yrs to be put on the list.
364CE Council of Laodicea ordered that religious observances were to be conducted on Sunday, not Saturday.
381CE First Council of Constantinople drew up a dogmatic statement on the Trinity and defined Holy Spirit as having the same divinity expressed for the Son by the Council of Nicaea 56 years earlier.
Christianity also is just a regurgitation of the old Canaanite mythos and ritual practices. In Hosea and Habakuk, we learn of the 'sons of Ephraim'--the Canaanites, they venerated a stick of wood, offered up human sacrifice upon high places--like MT Calvary, used human sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin, and relished in their sin, just as Christians do. Though the canaanites were condemned for such abominations.
Another note is that Ephraim was also the son of Joseph, born in the city of Bethel, AND also called the 'right hand of the father."
Hab 2:16 The cup from the LORD's right hand is coming around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory.

There are many man made religions and Christianity is one of them. Why? Because the word Christianity itself was not propagated by Jesus. There was no Christianity during the time of Jesus, no Church , no cross nothing. It was invented by St Paul , the man who was the sworn enemy of Jesus when Jesus was on he surface of the earth. Jesus never claimed to be God, nor he said "call yourself Christians"
