I ask bc/I swear I have everything, diagnosed by psychiatrists and self-diagnosed. I have been told I have bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, anxiety (umm axis 2 or whatever), and bulimia. And as for what I say I also have is insomnia (thats just never been put on paper), ADD (on Strattera for it), and maybe schizo features (term from what I gather from psych 100 college class? Have had voices since jr high but I don't want to go on meds for it again, nor do I ever wish to discuss it w/anyone ever again. So I deny it)? When I think about all that I just wonder if I'm just really crazy, cause I'm usually high functioning (aside from some hospitalizations), or if its all just a part of one problem. Any thoughts? cause I'm really feeling like a complete weirdo here. Or is anyone else in a similar situation?

Bipolar and Borderline Personality Disorder overlap quite a bit and many people are diagnosed with both.
To diagnose Anxiety as well, would be redundant, because people with mood disorders usually have anxiety as well.
People with Borderline PD often have binge eating; if it is enough of a problem, the clinician may diagnose the eating disorder as a separate diagnosis.
If you have Bipolar with mania, you will have insomnia at some point; it's part of it.
Many people who are diagnosed with Bipolar were first diagnosed with ADD in childhood.
If you hear voices, that is a common feature of both Bipolar and Borderline Personality Disorder, hallucinations does not always mean Schizophrenia.
Mental Disorders are rather subjective--the symptoms overlap and it is not unusual to get more than one diagnosis or to go to a different doctor and get a different diagnosis.
I have been diagnosed with Major Depression and Dysthymic Disorder. I have some mild features of OCD, sometimes I feel like I have Bipolar but I don't think it ever lasted long enough to qualify for a true manic episode. I had some features of ADD and mild autism when I was a kid; never formally diagnosed. I'm sure I could have been diagnosed with a personality disorder if I had seen a psychiatrist at the time I had that type of behavior. Obsessive-Compulsive, Schizotypal and Dependent Personality Disorders--I'm sure I met the criteria for all of those at different times.

I don't know how common it is, but it is definitely possible to have multiple psychiatric disorders.
Try to get the insomnia under control first, it will aggravate everything else.
Are you over 18 now? As an adult you can refuse treatment or hospitalizations. There are treatments for the disorders which you describe, and as hard as it is, it is important that you have a psychiatrist or at the very least a therapist. This is too much to sort out on your own, and it's not your fault that you suffer.
In time you may find yourself functioning even better with treatment. If you don't like a counselor or a doctor, find another.
Take a look at Yahoo! groups, you may find one that suits your needs. You're not alone, there are many psychiatric "puzzles" out there.
Take care of your self!

Kayla, I too have multiple psychiatric disorders, and diagnosed by doctors. I have Major Depression, borderline personality disorder, anxiety and I am a recluse. I have lived with these for 30 years and I take many drugs to cope with my life. The drugs are actually the only thing keeping me alive and I really believe some psych drugs would benefit you. I just wanted to write and say you are not alone and I do think there are many of us in the same condition today. I hope others write and tell you the same. E-mail me if you would like to.

Yes, it's very common. It is also common to be high functioning while dealing with these problems. Why do you not want to be medicated? Side effects? Unfortunately, some of these issues can become more intense as we age, which is why I would suggest you reconsider medication. Any problem is better dealt with head on, and is exacerbated by ignoring it(the voices). I hope you have a doctor you trust, and that you seek answers from him/her. I wish you much luck in finding the right answer for you.

Dear Kayla....let me summarize your problem.....Mental illnesses symptoms overlap (lack of concentration, lack of energy, hallucinations, feelings of worthlessness, low self esteem, etc). They are all caused by a chemical imbalance in brain neurotrasmiters and treated with similar medicines that work on these neurotrasmiters. I think what is important is the spiritual explanation. All this illnesses are caused by spirit attachments/entities. The problem is when science has put names and frame every illness. I think it is just one thing: a brain that is not functioning that causes spirits to enter the mind. This is why you feel Bipolar and borderline symptoms, anxiety, ADD and schizo features. Do not feel that you are crazy!!!!!!! you only have to solve one problem: (the biochemical imbalance and get rid of the spirit attachment). The first you can do it with meds, the second by doing acupuncture. If you have other questions do not hesitate to contact me. Argentox2@yahoo.com

if you are truly borerdline, and it sounds, from this post, that you may be, then you will have a wide variety of diagnoses. most professionals (and everyone else) do not want to work with you. you are a handful. you rarely face what you need to and pin it on everyone else. some people become gods to you until they let you down, then, inevitably, you hate them with a wrath only incurred by god.
if you want to be "crazy", fine. you will end up likely hurting others especially some innocent children and doing to them what was done to you. is that what you want?
everyone has voices in their heads. they are called introjects (usually ones internalized parents) sometimes people such as you have difficulty separating out real from imagined/with in the mind.
go get some therapy and REALLY TRULY look at your crap. it is HARD and sucks. but you CAN do it.
