Heard this question a thousand times. 1) For some they just have been into cars all there life. They understsand the exhilaration and satisfaction of working on a car to make it perform better and NASCAR is just the highest level of that. It's just like when one is little and wants to be a pro ball player of some sort. Chances are you'll never get there but you dream about it. 2) People of all sorts like to drive fast too. Once again NASCAR is the NEED for SPEED they'll never achieve on their own but can live that through the race. 3) It's a great spectator sport at home and especially live. It 's perfect for getting 4-5 buddies together with some beer and pizza all the while shooting the shiznut with each other and cheering for "Your" driver. Chances are 2 of you won't even like the same driver so there is some competiveness between everyone because you're not all rooting for the same football, baseball, basketball team etc...
Lastly. if you ever saw a NASCAR race "live" there is a good chance you would be hooked. I personally know several people whom never watched a race on TV and when we took them to a race at the track they were hooked. They watch the races all the time and are in Fantasy NASCAR leagues etc. My favorite was a friends father who would make fun of us for as he put it, " You damn guys what is the fun in watching 40 cars running around in circles for 3 hours and only making left hand turns." Well we took him to a race and he had the time of his life and now wears his drivers hat and t-shirt around any day of the week. Oh and he wastes 3 hours of his life every Sunday watching the race.

Some of the reasons for me have already been covered here. The strategy is a big part of it, as is the excitement of fast cars, loud cars, and the action all add to it. I would suggest trying to go check out a race at your local track to get a feeling of racing in general, but there is no atmosphere like a NASCAR race day atmosphere.
How do I choose drivers? Good question. I like to focus on the interviews they give, the background stories on the drivers, and see what kind of people they really are. If it's someone that I either find interesting, engaging, or controversial, I could hop on their bandwagon. But ultimately for me, it's if the person seems like a genuinely good guy. I'd hate to keep rooting for a person week in and week out that was a jerk to their fans.
I've met many drivers, for the most part they are all nice, at least in public. But one driver in particular I know firsthand is a good guy is David Reutimann. He's a guy that tries to do what's right, and he drives the wheels off the car when given the right equipment. He's a driver that "flies under the radar", but someone that ANYONE could be proud of supporting. I've met him MANY times, and he's always as pleasant as can be every time I speak with him.

For me Nasacr is very exciting. There is nothing like being there and hearing the motors running wide open. It will make the hair stand up on your arms and make the hair on your head stand up.
Another thing, the strageties the crew chiefs play out(4 tires,2tires. NO tires, wedge in or out, fuel stragety and much much more)
And if your at a race the drivers are really cool and are not snobby or think that they are too good to talk to their fans. They will sign just about anything. You dont hardly see athletes of other sports doing it that much.
Another thing is watching them at 200mph 3inches apart and three cars wide.
And of course the crashes are always terrifying. No Nascar fan wants to see a wreck and see someone hurt , It doesnt matter if its your favorite driver or not. You just want them out safely. Anyway thats just a little bit of what makes Nascar enjoyable.

As a life long fan it is something I grew up with. Short track racing My dad took me to and Figure 8 races-- I have Just completed my 32 year of driving Sportsman Class Stock Cars and Late Models.---The feel of power--the adrenelin rush--the competition--the sounds and smells--The aspect of it makes me feel young. This has carried over into Nascar for me!!!!!

FOR ONE THING ITS NOT THE COMMERCIALS DURING A RACE THAT KEEP ME WATCHING. the sound,, the smell ,,the look,, the name ... the green flag... the pit stops.. the cations... the lucky dog.. the restarts... the IN CAR CAMERA,,, the RACING.. the checkerd flag... the celebration.. ..............................not the commercials............yes we as fans feel connected to certain driver over another... to explain it wouuld not be worth it to try and make someone like what I like.... especailly you with attention disorder and all.
mainly its just a love or hate deal and I like many other motor heads... beer drinkers,,, basketball haters love nascar.
((( I must admit I have fallen asleep during a race before)))
And I was pissed when I woke up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bye for now.

If you have the ability to understand what is going on you wont get bored. If you haven't a clue as to what motor racing is then you will be bored and should distance yoiurself by changing channels and forums.

It's all them left turns... that's what really gets me going.
wooooooo hoooooooo!!!!
lol
It's fun.. it's crazy watching cars go that fast and get that close to each other and see the skills they have. Then when you learn more about the drivers and how they are on and off the track, it makes it even more interesting to see what's going to happen.
