If i have Call of Duty 4 for PC and my friend has it for PS3 will we be able to play online together?

online together and with other people with out lanning? or is the multiplayer limited strictly to each system?

No... you can't play together.

PS3 in on the "Playstation Network" you are not.

you cant play with him. each system has their own online community-(xbox live, playstation network, etc)

Different versions use different servers, that's why the answer is no.
