Well, firstly, Christianity is a religion. Secondly, what are you referring to specifically? This is a very broad question, so I'm not going to guess what you mean by it without more information.

No big deal, your just taking part in that "change the language" tactic. I love this one, this is a way that you reaffirm your beliefs rather than question them. "Christianity isn't a religion, it's a connection with Jesus" You don't have to consider that yours is just one religion among thousands. Muslims claim to have the same knowledge, don't you see how you're the same?

Many people find it enraging that others have a right to their own beliefs. Atheists would ban religion if they could. Fundies would overthrow our government and establish a theocracy. Jews think their messiah will come and all nations will kneel before them,so they already see themselves as our natural masters. Religion excites feelings of superiority, but so does anti-religion. People are the same about ideology - even everyday politics - so I don't think this is anything particular to religion. It's the way people can be,very stubborn in their false certitude. Alas.

Because there are so many rligions and most of them have very strong beliefs people can sometimes be very defensive about their beliefs. If they feel that someone is attacking something that they stringly believe in they will tend to get mad. It is like if someone insulted your best friend or some one you loved. You would probably get mad about it. Some people just don't deal with this anger as well as others do.

I'm an agnostic; I consider it a fascinating sociological subject; and since i discovered R&S I'm completely shocked by the depth of atheist hatred of christianity. They never mention any other religion either, which seems odd considering the definition of atheism.

Because religiosity is not a function of rational thinking, but of emotion and endoctrination.
Otherwise rational and logical people turn to angry, emotional, brainwashed fanatics as soon as the 'religion' switch gets tripped in their brains.

I think anger occurs due to pride, and lack of knowledge.
Both can be fearful to some who have not made the effort to really search for God.
Love is an active emotion.
