Our Troop wants to find some new ideas for raising money, other than selling cookies. Can anyone think of a new idea of how to do that? The girls are dieing to get their hands dirty and earn some money. There are some awesome trips that we want to take the girls on later next year when it's warmer, but we don't have a whole lot of good ideas on how to do so.

Anyone have any good ideas?

You can host a family fun night at a VFW hall. Charge 15 dollars a person over 13 and 8.00 for under 13. It can start off with a spaghetti and salad dinner cooked and served by your girls.
Then you can have a poker tournament on one side and have crafts on another. During the poker tournament you can sell poker chips for a flat fee. It will be an understanding that all money collected will be that of the girl scout troop and the poker is just for fun. Usually halls have a kitchen with a window. Sell sodas and water and snacks all donated by the family and community. At the end of the night have a auction . Prior to the auction sell funny money like
1000 funny money for 10.00
2000 for 15.00.
Have the girls bring an item new or used. If new nothing over 10 dollars. It is the Christmas holidays so there are plenty gift items. Watch the fun. Can you imagine 600 dollars for a shower gel basket? With funny money it is possible.
You will have to pay for the hall but it is a nominal fee unless you can talk them letting you have it there for free.

At the end of the night you could have easily raked in over 1000 dollars.

A walk-a-thon where people can sponsor each girl;

A garage/rummage/jumble sale where each family donates some old toys, clothes, goods and it's held at their hall. You could ask each mother to provide a cake, biscuits, etc, as well, stick up posters, advertise in local newspaper and send invites to their family and friends;

A cook-book is a great idea. We did this for my daughter at her day care when they wanted to raise money. You ask the parents for their fave recipes and maybe have themes, ie. Christmas ideas, Easter ideas, children's recipes, etc, and then get some nice person to type it all up, add in a few pictures from the computer, then print them out with a coloured cover and sell them for $6.00 each (or more if they look fantastic!).

I like the idea of the girl guides also possibly volunteering services to clean houses, or wash cars, or clean gardens - as long as someone is there supervising them. A good way of offering services to raise money and also they could use this to work towards some badges. In fact, a lot of the above could be used towards various badges.

Also, you could hold a movie night at a small cinema. I've been to a few of these - usually get charged about $10.00 to $15.00 and sometimes some drinks/food is provided at a small cost, and the movie is usually a fairly new release and there are cinemas around who will organise this for you when you are fundraising - this is a great way to get some good money and pretty easy too. Most people are happy to see a newish or popular movie when it's also going towards a good cause.

Raffle tickets are also very popular - and you often can get some quite good prizes if you ask nicely at some local businesses.

Sausage sizzles are popular too - I often see people outside large hardware stores on the weekend, lured irresistably to a freshly cooked sausage in a fresh roll - some supermarkets, etc, will also donate the goods if they get a mention in a sign you could make, etc.

Good luck !!

There are a lot of restaraunts out there that offer a deal where they make a certain night "Girl Scout Troop XYZ" night and everybody (family, friends, the scouts themselves) that comes in on that night to eat and mentions Troop XYZ, gets a percentage of their bill donated to Troop XYZ. I've seen this done at multiple chains...like Culver's (midwest chain) or Feddrucker's. So, the girls would just need to promote it by handing out flyers and such and show up at the restaraunt.

You could also do a charity auction. Collect things and services of value and auction them off. You might even see if you can run it off of ebay. See if anybody has any connections in the sports or entertainment world and see what you can get autographed. The rarer the items, the more money you will bring in. Fruit baskets or T-shirts for a local sports team aren't going to bring in much money because they are not rare.

50/50 raffles. Of the money made 50% goes to the winner of the raffle 50% of the money goes to the girl scouts.

bake sales (I made $3000 to pay for a trip to disneyland & Canada making banana bread in high school)

raking leaves, grocery shopping, lawn mowing for the elderly

car washes are awesome.

my son's school did a math contest. Where the kids got sponsorship, for each question they got right. People pledged like a nickel for each they got right. It was a very successful event.

Silent Auctions....even auctioning off the girl scouts to do chores for the highest bidder. (depending on age) and of course the safety of the girls would be of utmost concern. So limitations would have to be set.

I have been a part of a lot of organizations, and my girlfriend is the director for a private school. Aside from the traditional car washes, bake sales, and garage sales, here are some ideas that have worked for us:

Pizza Cards: With the pizza card, people will pay $10 for a card that will give them 20 Buy One Get One Free pizza specials (That’s a value of $200-300 per card!).

Skratchers:
http://www.skratchers.com/ppc/index.html
Each person in your group begins fundraising with 1 Skratchers card.. Each card can raise a total of $100!
Your participants ask potential supporters (family, friends or neighbors) to scratch and uncover 2 or more donation dots. These dots represent donation amounts ranging from 50¢ to $3. Your supporters donate the total of the amounts uncovered. In return, you give your donor a FREE coupon sheet with over $50 in valuable coupons!

Garage Sale- we used to do this as a youth group, and people were generous to give us there old stuff, and most of it sold.

How about selling like homemade picture frames or some other arts and crafts thing?

Recycling cans, bottles etc.

Good luck!

Edit: with the new year coming, why not make a calender? Have each girl draw a picture, or team them up so they each can have a picture in the calender.

with the up coming holidays gift wrapping bake sales are always good a holiday craft bazaar. Baby sitting for parents to go holiday shopping ( probably a badge in that)

Do you live in an area that gets bottle and can deposit refunds ... if so a bottle or can drive. Car wash when the weather gets warmer.

Have a big garage sale (each girl can get a few items from their house that their parents say is alright to sell) and also sell baked goods there (cookies, brownies, etc). Or do a car wash.

If it aint broke don't fix it. Girl scout cookies are perhaps the best fundraising product world wide, and probably the easiest sell that will pull in the most money. When someone sees a girl scout selling something else they will be sure to ask, where are the cookies?
