Does anyone take Effexor for depression?? I was recently put on it and I was looking some stuff up on google about it and I came across an "Effexor Petition". According to the thing I read, people are experiencing severe side effects from it.

I'm just wondering if anyone is having any problems like that with it????

I've been on Luvox, Risperdal, Paxil, Cymbalta, Wellbutrin, and Prozac. None of them work for me.

try consulting your physician about it, the one who prescribed it to you and you local pharmacist, basically all medicines have their side effects, but not everyone experience it.

I took Effexor for a few months and don't remember any bad side effects but everyone is different. Cymbalta didn't help me at all, but both Paxil and Lexapro have.

If you're not getting any benefits from these meds, it's possible you're on too small of a dose. Some doctors put people on these tiny doses because they want the lowest possible effective dose, but I always need a high dose of anything to get any effect. Ask you doctor to raise your dose before you give up on a med.

Antidepressants are commonly used for anxiety. You probably have not found the right one or on the wrong dose of the right one. There are a couple types of more specific antianxiety meds. Benzos like Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin basically are sedatives. They also are addictive in that it's almost always inevitiable that you will need more to get the same effect. There also are beta blockers like proponol (spelling?). They work for some, not for others, and have more side effects. As already suggested, exercise and eating right can help a lot. The other non-med option (or used in conjunction) is talk therapy. It actually has a pretty good track record at taming anxiety. Look for a therapist that you respect, sense that you'll have a good rapport, and can grow to trust.

If you have been on Effexor for several days and don't have any significant side effects, then you probably won't have any. It takes from 2 to 4 weeks to get the antidepressant effects from an antidepressant but you get the side effects right away. Also, sometimes you may get some side effects at first and then have them go away in a couple of weeks.

I have been tried on many different antidepressants and Effexor has been the most effective one for me. One of the advantages of Effexor is that it raises the levels of 2 neuro transmitters, serotonin and nor-epinephrine. Low levels of each of these can cause Depression and most antidepressants only increase the levels of serotonin.

I have been on Effexor for several years. One of the common side effects of antidepressants that is seldom talked about is sexual side effects. Men can get lowered desire, erectile dysfunction, and anorgasmia. Women can get lowered desire and anorgasmia (difficulty having an orgasm and lack of sensation)

A person can get sexual side effects from 1 antidepressant and not from others. The 2 antidepressants that have the lowest incidence of sexual side effects are Welbutrin and Serzone. Sexual side effects may not be noticed right away but appear over time or after the dose of the medication is increased.

I hope that something I have written has helped.

I've been on mostly all of the anti depressents and yes, I've taken Effexor and I had serious side effects from it. I tried Cymbalta, and it was a nightmare. My psychiatrist put me back on Prozac and I feel MUCH better.

Exercise works just as good as meds for depression. You have to do it 30 minutes 3-5 times a week though. Look it up on google, several major university studies. No need to pay money for meds that will only eventually deplete your brain of the very neurtransmitters it needs to feel better. And then leave you feeling just as bad as before.

If you want take tyrosine, at least 10 grams a day of high quality (like Carlsons's) fish oil, and get an hour of sunlight a day,(1/2 of that have your skin soak up the rays for vitamin D and the full hour in the winter/autumn). Sleep with drapes open and get at least 1/2 hour sunlight in morning to wake your body up. look this stuff up if you need second opinions.

Get a pet. Another's company will surely lift your spirits.

Depression has many reasons, but many of them cause lowered seritonin and dopamine and these are some ways to increase them cheaply without side effects. Some of these things start to take effect after a few days and you will feel much better. I've been there and just want you to know that there are other waysto deal than paying for meds that may or may not work and then you have to take another one and then you have to wait a few weeks to see if it kicks in, you have to go back to the Dr to reevaluate, and then the side affects (short term and long term).

Everyone responds to anti-depressants differently. What works for me may send you screaming over the edge. As you read about anti-depressants, all carry risks, and many of them work on the brain in a different manner. Keep track of your moods when starting a new medication, on paper is great so that you don't forget what was going on when you talk to your doctor.

I'll spare you the gory details, but Effexor sent me screaming over the edge, I will never take it again.

I have been taking Effexor XR for years. I haven't had any side effects. The only thing is if I miss it for 2 days, my body feels weird. I am not in any pain, but very emotional and out of sorts. If you are taking it now and decide not to, don't stop it on your own. Your doctor has to ween you off of it.

I've been taking it for years. I don't have any side effects on a day-to-day basis, but if I forget to take one, I get dizzy. The worst thing, to me, about effexor is that it is hard to go off it. You have to wean very slowly, with the help of your doctor.

I guess the bottom line is that if you aren't having problems and it seems to be helping you, don't worry about it.

I had extremely horrible side effects on Effexor,I heard they have even tried to ban it.Google "Effexor side effects" and you will see a huge list. You have to work with your doctor to find one thats right for you, sometimes it takes awhile to find the right one,or you may need a combination of two different antidepressants together.Talk to your doc.
