I have a 3 yr old golden retriever named Honey. I'm the one who basically takes the most care of her, I play with her, feed her, take her for walks, train her, etc. and she's always been good to me. However lately, when I bring her in the house, if I get within a foot of her she'll growl and/or show all her teeth at me! She looks like a wolf! I don't understand WHY she is doing this to ME! She spends the majority of her days outside and she NEVER does it to me out there, but when she's inside she does it! It used to be that she'd only do it when she'd be chewing on a bone and I'd go to pet her, which is reasonable I guess, but today more than ever I noticed that she just did it whenever I tried to pet her! I mean I NEVER hit her or mistreated her, and neither has anyone in my family! She doesn't do it to my parents, she sometimes does it to my sister, but it's ME that she does it the most to. Anyone have a clue why? How can I get her to stop? I don't want her to bite me or something!

get her to the vet to make sure nothing is physically wrong, and if they can't find anything, find yourself a good behaviorist. Toy and treat possessive aggression is NEVER ok. Her growling and teeth showing could quickly turn into something worse, and you need to get to the bottom of it before some seriously gets hurt.

This sounds like a respect and pack standing issue. Go to the library and get the book called The Dog Listener, she is a British trainer who really understands pack behavior and gives very helpful advice. An obedience class would be an excellent idea and should be done immediately, this could turn into a very bad situation and you need help to turn your pet back into the sweetie she should be.

Lets see, she NEVER does it to your parents, she sometimes does it to your sister, and she does it to you the most. This sounds like a hierarchy "pack" issue to me. As far as she is concerned, you are lower in the pack order than she is, and she will only accept pats from you when she wants to and on her terms. Her showing ANY form of aggression to you is VERY bad.

I suggest you read up on how to become "alpha", or at least increase your pack status to that above her. There are a LOT of articles on the net regarding this topic and various methods. Pick the ones that you are comfortable with. I personally would stay away from the "alpha roll" but have nothing against a ham roll.

Perhaps you are spending too much time away from her. The other thing is maybe having someone else help out with taking her out. She may be having separation anxiety towards you.
The other things is...maybe your dog is just has an attitude. Maybe she is sick ...and you should get her checked out.
Usually when they act out, there is a reason for it. Good Luck

See the vet to rule out medical issues.

Find a trainer as well who can help you sort out why the dog is behaving this way.

Visit www.fearfuldogs.com for good training info for fearful or aggressive dogs.

I think that you need to take her to the vet to make sure that there are no heath issues that you need to be concerned about. Then I would consult a trainer. Good luck!

She may have a neurological problem. You need to call the vet on this one.
Be careful with her, she may turn on you.
