I'm trying to plan a trip to NYC this summer with my mom. We're from a small town in the Midwest and we are two small women, so we are somewhat concerned about safety and getting around. If you have any suggestions on afordable places to stay I would love to hear them. We are also looking into seeing a broadway show and doing some shopping. Any input would be great! Thanks

First- Have fun in NYC!
Hotel:Stay in midtown. http://www.newyorkhotel.com/ These hotels are budget and I've stayed at 2 of them and liked them. Belvedere was best. To decide on a hote look on www.tripadvisor.com and read user reviews.

Sightseeing: Use grayline sightseeing. http://www.grayline.com/Grayline/destinations/us/newyork.go
Youll have a great time!

For broadway tickets go to tks ticket both and get 1/2 off tickets.

If you have specific questions you can email me:)

The city is more or less safe, thieves try to talk you out of your money now, so just don't listen to any sob story or what have you.

Broadway is currently having a strike and so many shows are not playing now but who knows how long that's going to last (probably not all through summer). Why not take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge? It's free and will give you some of the best views not only of the bridge but also of the city as well. When you get to the Brooklyn side, you can find the area where the movie "Moonstruck" was filmed on Cranberry st. Just take the 4, 5, or 6 train to "Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall" and go for the walk. You'll never forget it.

I always bring my out of town relatives there for a nice walk.

In terms of shows to see, Beauty and the Beast was an awesome show, absolutely fantastic. Miss Saigon was also a great show. The special effects for both will keep you guessing. In terms of a hotel DO NOT go to the Pennsylvania hotel across from Madison Square Garden, they don't have a bar and/or restaurant or any room service. It was a tiny room and the location was ok for shopping and shows but I'm sure you could find something better for the money they were asking. For other shows Blue man group on Astor Place was pretty cool too. I hope you have a great trip!!!

I agree the New Yorker is a great hotel and right near Penn Station subway. It's a block from Herald Square.

One thing I did last time I was there was a Circle Line cruise. Circle Line has a variety of sightseeing cruises that give you a different view of Manhattan. In many of them, you will get to see the Statue of Liberty (but not visit the island). There are also star tours (last year, we did the "Sex and the City" tour) to see where TV shows set in NYC film.

Act like you know where you're going and what you're doing. Know where you need to go before you leave the hotel room. Carry a SMALL subway map with you--I check it discreetly from time to time when I visit, but I also know where I need to get on, where I need to get off, and which way to walk. Usually. However, I'm used to public transit, as I live in another large city. Be aware of your surroundings.

Hope you both have fun!

circulate to BookMe. you could evaluate expenditures on each and every of the main shuttle sites from one region. that's the only way you could assure the appropriate deals for the appropriate hotels to your money on line.
