i have a 4 1/2 month old chiuhua .. he is so sick and want eat, he drinks some. but not as much as he normally would. i took him to the vet and they gave him some amoxi drops, for me to give him for 7 days, twice daily. its not helpin and he's still not eating. he is nothing but bones now, because he want eat. what can i do to make him eat. there's no point of me takin him to the doc. because they will say the same thing, and tell me to continue giving him his amoxi drops. i have checked his poo poo ( sorry tmi ) and there is no blood in it. and he's not throwing up, he just want eat, and when he does its like a bite of something and thats all. what do i do? and what could be wrong? this puppy completely has my heart and i dont want to loose him. what is some ways i can boost his energy up to make him move around, instead of sleeping all day?? .. something please!!!

I would consider taking it to another vet. If you don't tell them you already took him to the vet they might give you a different opinion. If your puppy is sick I don't think just forcing it to eat will make it better. But if you haven't already you can try giving him soft canned food, he might like it better. Also if he has or had fleas he could have gotten tape worm and could be contributing to his skinniness, but there is no way to tell for sure what is wrong with him.
Hope he gets better

You have been asking questions on Y!A for 5 days now about your sick puppy.
If you care so much for it - fulfill your responsibility as a pet owner and take it somewhere where it CAN get help. I'm sure there is more than one veterinarian in your area.
You should be asking your veterinarian all of these questions - and getting answers!
If all your vet did was give you amoxi drops then it sounds like your vet is an idiot. Did he give you a DIAGNOSIS? Did he give you a PLAN if the antibiotics did not help? Did he offer to hospitalize the pup or give you a REFERRAL to a 24-hour care facility?
When you go to the vet - they charge alot of money - ask questions and get your money's worth.
??? Your vet said he's "sick" and gave your dog antibiotics (amoxi) which is not helping - so, Yes, I do think you need to go to a different veterinarian, and yes you need to spend some more money to fulfill your RESPONSIBILITY. Sorry people if the answers you get are not the ones you WANT to hear.

Antibiotics can typically take a few days to start showing an improvement. Make sure he keeps drinking, and keep up with the amoxi as the vet directed. It's very important to give the full course and not miss any doses. Give him some treats if he doesn't feel like eating his food, just so that he has something in his stomach. Call the vet if you're nervous, they can probably tell you if something is wrong over the phone without having to pay for another office visit.

Try spicing up his food with some kind of wet food or that gravy mix they make for dogs. If he were my dog, I'd be on the phone with the vet asking him what else could be wrong with him since he's still not eating. Maybe you can go to another vet for a second opinion. How long has he been on the amoxi drops? Perhaps it hasn't been long enough yet for it to kick in and start helping.

You should consult with another vet ASAP. They will at least be able to give him fluids to keep him from being dehydrated. Did the vet tell you why they gave him amoxi? it does not sound like an infection. Has he been vaccinated for distemper, parvo and such? Parvo is all too common in puppies. But in any case, he is not going to make it too much longer without some kind of nutrients.

You need to get you some nutri-stat or nutri-cal. It's a high calorie paste, adn will help ensure that his blood sugar doesn't bottom out.
It comes in a tube like toothpaste, squirt about an inch on your finger, and pry his sweet little mouth open and rub it on the roof of his mouth. IT's very sticky, he'll have to swallow it. This will help his blood sugar and give him an energy boost. I'd give it every couple of hours until he's feeling better.
You can get this at most pet stores and your vet should have already given you some, ask him for it.
That's the first thing you need. some caro syrup will work in the meantime, can administer that by syringe (no needle), just squirt it in his mouth.
As for feeding. Have you offered him some scrambled eggs? I've not met a chi yet that could resist them.
Keep giving him the amoxi drops, and try scrambled eggs or some ham. Have you tried different foods?

What, if any, diagnostics were done? I don't think that going to a new vet is the answer. I would go back to the original vet because they are most familiar with the case. It is unfair to assume that this vomiting episode is a continuation of the last one and that it is the vet's fault. Particularly if the vomiting had stopped for 10 days. If you brought this case to me, I would repeat a fecal, do some bloodwork, and take radiographs to check for obstructions. The fuzz in the vomit makes me think that a foreign body could be the fault. Hypoglycemia, which is common in these little guys, can also cause vomiting.

You need to take that dog to the vet please. Take him to an emergency clinic tonight--an animal that small can get dehydrated and malnourished in hours, not days. He can't lose too much weight or he will not recover. They can monitor him much better there and feed him a liquid diet. If they have him on antibiotics and he's not getting better, then the infection they are treating is not responding to the meds and it is getting worse.
If you are really unable or unwilling to take this suffering animal to the vet, try human infant rice cereal made up with water or very weak chicken broth and feed it to the pup with an eyedropper--he will very likely take it if he can't stomach dog food. Do this frequently and as much as he'll eat until he's stronger --maybe several times an hour and keep the pup hydrated with lots of water. Also keep him warm and do not attempt to move him much--he needs his energy to get better, not to play. Expect to have to clean up his messes because an animal as sick as you're describing is probably not in control of his bladder and BM's at this point and shouldn't be forced to go outside to take care of business--keep him on some old towels and just remove the soiled ones as needed and wipe him up with some baby wipes.

Sweet heart- I have 5 Chihuahuas. Their little stomachs are about as big as a thimble. If your baby is eating anything and holding it down, then say praise b/c he IS eating. Some foods you could try is baby food. Chicken is good. Also try squash baby food. I know that sounds nasty but it works. Also put yourself in his place, if you felt sick would you want to eat? No all you would want to do is sleep. You have to have patience with him. CALL the doc if you are feeling like something is really wrong. Ask them what you can do. Make a list of questions you have and what you have been doing for the baby. It will help when you are on the phone with him. Also you may want to try puppy formula. And please keep in mind that if he is loosing weight, you want to keep him warm. One of the easiest way to loose your baby is for him to get too cold.
