I think I might know about that Group its been discussed before.
First they only ask the year of your birth, not the date, that's to make sure you are old enough and to know when parents need to give their permission.
Second, if its more than an a group, but an online ministry or church which is led by those whose knowledge of the Scriptures you trust, then what's the problem?
Its no different than filling out a card at a local church.
Obviously the Pastor of a local church could be a pedophile.
Perhaps that online ministry or group has has problems in the past with pedophiles trying to join and to protect those who are already members, the rule was created to verify all new people who want to join.
If its the group I think it might be, there is a links page where you can learn an awful lot about it. And you can get to the links page without joining.
If its the same group I think it is.
Pastor Art
PS: The group I'm thinking about does publish their phone number.

My question is .... Do you have Norton or McAfe for protection and a good firewall? If not, maybe I'd think twice.
If you know for sure this is a good group, I see no reason why you shouldn't.
If you've ever bought anything online, they ask even more personal and damaging information than what they are asking for from you.
Anyone can get the information they are asking from you if they have your name by doing a search. More importantly you can buy even more personal information off the internet from public records. I can even Earth Google your home and see it in live time. If someone out there wants to do you harm, it's not that difficult to get the information to it.
Besides, who is in charge? Is not God in charge? Don't you think He's able to do what He says He can?

I tried to join an online group that not only asked for that info, but asked for money too. I didnt join, to say the least. Had it not been for asking for money, I probably would've.
Do you know anyone in it? Have you heard good reviews about it? I don't like giving out personal information online. If you have peace about this, and have prayed about it, go ahead. But my initial reaction was no.

Nope I wouldn't give this information over the Internet I don't care which group is asking for it...
With that information someone who wanted to steal your identity is well on the way to a Platinum Visa...
Addition: A couple years back I hit a hitch with Child Support.. I was told my case was closed and the CS office was unable to collect... I got mad and did some searches myself...
Armed with my ex husbands name and birthdate (only those 2 peices of info) I found records for the purchase of his house, his business, the reorganization of his business, a complete deed for the purchase of his vacation home, his SSN (it was listed on one of the deeds), his wifes SSN (same deed), etc. All without paying a dime and all in a matter of 3 hours searching public (superior court, county assessor, etc.) sites...
With very little information and a bit of time I was able to collect $56,000 in back child support..... If I had chosen to use the information differently I could have stolen both their identities very easily...
Be careful who you give your information to, I am a stay at home mom and was able to find the info in 3 hours a pro would take far less time and know the routes to using the info for something other than collecting child support...

Let them have some more info about the group and give them your first name and a different e-mail. Later when you see that the group is legit give more inf. It's a trust thing and you should treat it as you would a stranger who just moved next door. Use your conditions dictate how fast to go.

No I would not join. They are asking for too much information for an online group. Also with the home address I wouldn't be surprised to have someone come knocking.

No. Most likely they will mail you things and call you for donations or something. I am a Christian too, but I wouldn't feel comfortable shouting that out to the internet for people on the other side to do whatever they wish with. You could always jsut make it up.

without any way of validating the authenticity of this group, I would not advise you to join, If your DOB and SS number are obtained, your life can be divested by identity theft. Ask yourself a simple question for what purpose does this organization need this info. Rather report them to the local authorities where they are registered. post their URL and others will do that.

I recently left the Catholic church. I have no interest in protestant or non denominational churches since they are churches founded by man. LDS I find attractive and they are the only Christians to never treat me like garbage, plus have the claim of apostolic succession, which deals with a big part of the Book of Acts and the Letters. For now I'm staying away from all churches. but if I was to pick one it would be LDS for sure.

I wouldn't, maybe if you could get a phone# and talk to
someone (live). Otherwise, I would never give out personal information like that over the Internet. I wouldn't even give it out on the phone if they were the ones that called "me".
God Bless You.
