You can play any type of music on any instrument. That's where the artistry comes in.

Listen to "Wonderful Tonight" on the record "Slowhand" by Eric Clapton.

You can't really hear a standard electric guitar unless it's plugged in. You might be able to practice to yourself without an amp, but no one else will hear it.

The song "Something" by George Harrison is a slow love song, and it is played on an electric guitar, so your answer is absolutely yes.

You need an amplifier to be heard with an electric guitar. You need a good TUBE amplifier when you start to get to the point where you might be playing out because they are actually a huge part of the way an electric guitar will sound, and some amps work better with certain guitars - experiment and see what you like.

You can play slow love songs on and electric guitar. Just turn the distortion off on you amp (Always buy an amp when you buy an electric guitar). Gun's and Roses did tons of sappy love songs on an electric guitar.
When you unplug your guitar, you can barley hear the instrument. It sounds like an acoustic guitar without the hole.
