I think the only reason it's being opposed is because it is new. When asprin first came out it was opposed by religious people on this idea: If you have a headache, it's because of your sins and you deserve it. When the first abdominal surgury came about, there was a huge uproar because it was not meant to happen. This is something that could make to human race faster, stronger, live longer, and better in a lot of ways. What do you think?

It's a very new and experimental technology I will wait to make a judgement about whether or not I agree until we have seen what can actually be done and whether or not the changes are actually for the betterment of mankind...

Right now much of the research into animal DNA is showing some promise in curing and treating diseases which I will agree is good but we will see.. Asprin while it is a great medication does have some drawbacks especially in conjunction with iternal bleeding... Animal DNA is no different we will have to wait and see if the promise outweighs the drawbacks.. I do think the research should continue at this point as there is still so much to learn before a determination can be made...

1. Humans are animals.
2. DNA is DNA. It's the gene sequences that differ, and you can't just throw tiger DNA in a test tube with human DNA, shake it, and produce viable offspring. It doesn't work like that.
3. The human species itself is already extremely viable. We could easily be faster, stronger, live longer and better if we simply ate a balanced diet, stopped smoking, drinking, drugs, and exercised regularly.

Everyone wants a pill or potion to combat laziness.

It could make us humans a lot worse.
Think about it, do humans need to know how to kill better then we do already?
Put into the gene pool a wild animals dna, this does not seam to my un educated mind to be very smart idea.

Not to mention the God complex, nor the whole host of deceases to work though.... Lets figure out the human race first then start experimenting (plus this concept is in the works in some back alley laboratory I bet anyhoo, not a new concept).

the important reasons are medical

if you put animals genes into humans or human genes into animals, then you could end up allowing more cross species diseases.

They have tried to develop pigs with some human genes so that they can produce certain drugs but found that the risk of transmitting disease was too great for this.

This presents no problem for me morally, ethically or religiously.

But if the experiments to make this work are FORCED upon people by coercion or fraud, then it's a huge problem on all accounts. Especially if the unlucky test subject is me.

I hate this idea, and it has nothing to do my religion. I've been around a lot of scientists, and they're great folks, but they do not know everything and some seem to have the idea they're still playing with the chemistry set they got for their 13th birthday. I can't trust them blindly (you know, like atheists can't trust God blindly) and just because we can do something doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Fine with me as long as it conforms to scientific and ethical standards. I'm sure the religious extremists, as usual, will wail out against it until it it shown to be quite helpful; at which time they will call it a gift from god.

Since it would be animal dna + animal dna, I'm all for it; If I saw a raccoon-person walking down the street, I wouldn't think twice.
