Hi,
I live in the states and have been looking for a 1981 Ford Fiesta to buy, but can't find any. I noticed that the UK has all of them! But, I also noticed that the steering wheels are on the right-hand side. I need one with the steering wheel on the left-hand side.
I will pay decent money for a 1981 Ford Fiesta, but I have no clue how to get it to the States, except to have someone ship it by boat. I will pay for that, too. But how much would that cost?
Does anyone know where there is a 1981 Ford Fiesta in great shape, how much it is and how much shipping is?
Thanks!

Your best bet will probably be a southern European country, such as Spain or Portugal, where the climate will have been kinder to a car of that age (and cars are LHD).
However, it will be very hard to find one - any remaining example will be so low value that it won't be worth advertising them on the internet. The best source may be local newspapers - or find someone local to source one for you.

You would be best looking for an XR2 from that year, which was the sports model of the Fiesta, chances are the modified guys might have got hold of most of the remaining ones. You'll struggle to find a left hand drive one here in the Uk however. A scrapper wouldn't be worth buying as parts will be a problem to locate in the US.

Have a look on www.ebay.co.uk

As for shipping you'll probably need a couple of thousand pound or $4000 all in plus the cost of the car, a nice one will still fetch around £2000 ($4000). Not sure whether you'll cop for import tax like we do.

Are you sure you still want one????

If you mean the Fiesta as we know it in the UK, I very much doubt if there many still around, the rust bug will have done it's work long ago. You certainly won't find one in any decent sort of condition.

Check a Fiesta club in the USA, I had one when I was living in Europe, but here in the states are almost impossible to find.

er ok, each to his own i suppose... coming from us to england shipping is around 800 quid, then theres duty, and tax, and you bet it wont comply with your emissions regs... and ive spent most my working life fixing them... and yes, theres a few good ones, but theyre like hens teeth...

look on ebay, in the disabled section, our disabled get a free car on motability, they tend to keep em forever, from new, and ive seen a few with around 35 thousand miles, and they are immaculate... and theyre worth around 250 quid... and they only fetch that because of the price of scrap metal , theyve a tank full of gas...

you want something that looks like a fiesta, buy a golf GTi... and buy one local to you, and save a few thousand dollars... or more. i had an 1800cc gti scirocco, 135mph... the brakes and suspension were suspect at that speed... but what a car... or the puegeot 205gti convertible... absolutely tyre smoking performance... or if youwant to go drifting buy an old beemer or a volvo 850 saloon... 150mph in a chassis designed to do it... for what is basically loose change...

are you sure its the same car? as uk cars are different.

it was a good car to be honest, but the engine was rubbish on them, not enough power in them.

you could get one shipped for sure, but it would cost more than the cars worth

as for getting one in great shape..hhmm tricky most are probably just a pile of rust now.

Other than I would rather own a AMC Pacer, I recommend you advertise on craigslist.com in your area.

no idea where you can find one but i suggest that maybe you try ebay or craigslist.org. i found this link which has information about the car itself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Fiesta
