Listen! Do not read the Bible. Obviously you won't believe it if you go in with a negative mind already. Research where each book came from. And check the validity of them. Agnostic researchers have concluded how old the manuscripts are and directly translated it! It is exactly the same. You have to have an open mind. Be strong in your unbelief but just research where the bible came from. Not the bible itself. This is probably useless but maybe there's one atheist out there who hasn't hardened their ears to God's word. If you just research with an open mind you will see.

background research of the bible. One atheist did it a journalist for Inquirer he started listing the facts of the bible and listed why he doesn't believe. He found it would take more faith to believe in atheism rather than God is real.

Are you done ranting and making groundless assumptions or would you like to continue for a while and get it all out of your system?

"Listen! Do not read the Bible. Obviously you won't believe it if you go in with a negative mind already. "
So, in order to believe it we have to first be willing to believe it without question? ARE YOU HIGH?!?!?!

"Research where each book came from. And check the validity of them."
I have, actually.

"Agnostic researchers have concluded how old the manuscripts are and directly translated it! It is exactly the same."
An outright lie. There are no surviving originals from which to draw that conclusion.

"You have to have an open mind."
Oh, I do. But not so much as my brain falls out!

"This is probably useless but maybe there's one atheist out there who hasn't hardened their ears to God's word. If you just research with an open mind you will see."
You have a problem with circular reasoning.

"background research of the bible."
been there

"One atheist did it a journalist for Inquirer he started listing the facts of the bible and listed why he doesn't believe. He found it would take more faith to believe in atheism rather than God is real."
Name your source.

Suppose you didn't smoke cigarettes, never. Now, if one of your friends tried to get you read all the latest research that's been published on the subject to give you the OTHER SIDE of the story about the low risks involved in smoking so that maybe you'd change your mind and start smoking a pack-a-day, would you go ahead and read all the material with an "open mind"? Or would you tell your friend to go where the sun don't shine? Nobody needs to read the bible to determine if they believe in God or not. Why would an atheist read the bible in the first place....??

Get yourself a book in another language and translate it word for word into English using a multilingual dictionary. Then have it translated by someone who speaks both languages and can give you the nuances that each people actually mean when they say those words. You will find that you can hardly tell they came from the same book. Try this with a book from about a century ago. The translations will be even farther apart because languages continually change.
Now, don't you think the same thing could have happened with the Bible?

Again, as I said but you clearly did NOT read for comprehension - I HAVE studied the origins and history surrounding the bible, as well as the history of the church. Have you? Perhaps you should go back and reread what I said, since I'm not going to retype it.

Research led me to the FACT that it was written by a bunch of men, anywhere from 60 years to 300 years after Jesus's death. Research led me to the FACT that a council of MEN, NOT divinely inspired, decided which books should be included and which should not. The gospel of Thomas? Left out - too controvertial; it questioned things others stated as fact. The gospel of Mary? left out - who would believe the words of a mere woman, who is clearly led by satan regardless of what she says.

So ONE man published his research and found that it was easier to believe. And? How about the hundreds of men who have also published their research and remained unchanged in their beliefs? WE call them HISTORIANS out here in the real world. NOT journalists. Sorry, darling, I've been a journalist - and that writing is based less in facts than persuasion.

You don't need an open mind to research history, merely a fascination with how things came to be the way they are.

Consider trying to research some history - REAL history, not what some journalist wrote to persuade you- clearly it worked.

Tell me, did you also wrap your house in plastic and duct tape a few years ago? The media "researched" it and said that's what would keep you safe from anthrax. What? You didn't believe them? Where is your open mind???

The problem is this: The council of Nicea (sp?) went through the original texts and decided which ones were valid for inclusion in the bible. The council must have been inspired by God for your bible to be HIS WORD. This means that the authors which they rejected must have been mistaken when they thought they were writing God's inspired word. And this includes some of Jesus' closest disciples, including Phillip, Mary Magdeline, and others. So, the only conclusion that can be drawn is: either the authors were inspired by God, in which case the council was wrong to reject some of their writings, or the council was inspired by God in which case some of the original authors were wrong in what they wrote. Either way, it makes the whole book suspect and totally unreliable as a factual "inspired by God" document.

So you think you have a thoughtful lock on biblical scholarship, do you? Check out the link below (one of zillions that can be found). Take a walk on the wild side, and then let's chat again in a few years.
After digesting Paul's epistles and the horrors of Leviticus, I'm quite comfortable remaining an atheist. But for intellectual rigor, I challenge you to delve in. The water may be deep, but therein lies the truth about how Christianity was invented and elaborated. And it wasn't divinely inspired. There was never anything divine about it.

Ah, the poor old atheists are getting hammered by ignoramuses again.
Listen Boyball. Atheists are the broad-minded ones. We HAVE read your bible, and also dipped into the Koran, the Baghavad Gita and so on.

If you had an open mind you would realise what a terrible load of old cobblers it is, riddled with inconsistencies, where it isn't downright nasty. Try reading:-

Genesis 19: 7 to8
Judges 19: 23-29
Numbers 31: 18

And tell me that it would encourage people to convert to your cult.

You have approached this in the wrong way. We were all essentially Atheist at some time in our lives. We all have been visited by the Holy Ghost and have been given the truth. Some choose to believe some don't. We must, as Christians show love and understanding to all people. Jesus said to love others and to love our enemies and to forgive our enemies. We do not have to prove God exist. He is more than able to do that Himself. The Bible helps us as Christians to keep our faith through His Word and the Holy Ghost guides us in all we do.

Mmmmmmm, well, I'll give you an E for effort.
Logic can not save a person. There for, proving the source of the scriptures is reliable will only prove that there were believers who believed four thousand years ago.

The word of God is alive! (Jesus) sharper than a two edged sword, piercing the hearts and souls of men, convicting them and convincing them that God is their Father and Jesus is their savior.

If you want to convince people about the good news, stay in touch with the God of creation. Stay in touch with God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Still, you may at least make someone think. and maybe in thinking they will hear what they have heard before enlightened by the Holy Spirit and change their minds.

Hey, I give you an A for effort, but the Bible says "don't place your pearl before swine.." These people aren't going to believe no matter what you say. It's better just to let God deal with them...
