There is no highest paying job. That is the beauty of the economic system we live in...you make what you can make based on the market, supply and demand of people who do what you do, as well as supply and demand for the skill that you have. A good plumber will live better than a crappy doctor. If you own real estate the sky's the limit.
Whatever you want to be, get credentialed to earn as much as you can, stay on top of your game, and work harder, fill a niche that no one else does, offer good service for a fair price, be good to your customers and market yourself...you will do well. The question of whether you are better than someone else, whether in your field or not, well, does that matter as long as you can live your life the way you want?
PS I'm guessing that Ohio, as part of the Midwest (from Iowa myself) there is plenty of farm country. Where there's farms, there's animals...where there's animals there's vets. So follow your dream, and learn to do it well.

I've heard that the highest-paying blue-collar jobs are underwater welder and steeplejack. A steeplejack gets paid $500 just for changing a light bulb. The down side is that the light bulb is on top of the antenna on top of the Empire State Building. A while back the Wall Street Journal had an article about investment bankers averaging $5 million a year, although I've since seen lower figures, maybe due to a difference in definitions. Admittedly a measly $5 million a year is nothing compared with what hedge fund managers make (about $100 million a year).
