We just put gray slate flooring down in the kitchen and bathroom area. The problem is we have brownish Berber carpeting that leads into the two rooms and it clashes with the gray tile. I would love to do a hardwood floor in the next room but can't find a type/color of wood that goes with the gray (besides black which is not an option). Any ideas or suggestions???

I have a long house where one area merge into the other and so on. I have gray stone tile floors in half of the house from the dining room to the kitchen, then past the kitchen i have a border of the same stone tile followed by dark brazilian cherry hardwood in the middle. that was the only and best way i found to carry the style and color of each room to another without clashing.

if you're going to do hardwood, any med to dark color will go well with the gray slate. brown and gray on floors is not the same as trying to match it in clothing. wood goes with anything, and as long as it's darker than the gray, by at least a couple of shades, it'll look great.
