my cousin's dog has been losing hair it started off with a spot like a bite and then it was a big missing hair spot (the vet dosent know whats wrong) Now my two Jack Russels have little red spots all over their stomache and legs and scratching. Is this noramal for Jack russels to scratch in the winter/fall????Help Plz!!!!!!

sounds like mange, its the only thing that would cause red itchy patches of hairloss that is contageous, the only way to tell for sure is a skin scraping done by the vet.
if your vet has not yet done or suggested this you might want to find a new vet.

the other likely problem would be an alergy but it would be very strange that all 3 dogs now have the same condition.

It's probably mites, these are pretty contagious. But then if it was mites, the vet would have known this. So if the vet doesn't know yet, how do you expect us to? We haven't even SEEN the dog!

Just because a vet doesn't get the answer right away doesn't mean they never will - illnesses are complicated, that's why vets go to med school for years, to learn how to get to the bottom of them. So continue working with the vet, or go to a different one if you don't like it.

It is time to go to a different vet.

Some of the causes could be various manges or ringworm (not actually a worm), to name a few.

This needs to be addressed ASAP, since some of these ailments can cross over to humans.

could be mange. u need to see a better vet. my sister in law's dog died because of that.

Well it could be from a certain bug I don't know what kind but you should search the web just try.
