Go ahead, but know that this one has great potential to be one of those things in say 35 years you'll hit your forehead and wonder what you were thinking! I'm 52 now and there are some decisions that I did when I was a teenager that I would choose differently, knowing what I know now, but that's all a part of living and learning. Have some fun with it!

As Catholics, the Church expects us to promote self-love by appearing well groomed and things like that. After all, those unablwe to love themselves can't very well love others.

As far as mohawks fo, specifically, I don't believe the Church opposes the mohawk haircut. You may encounter a negative social bias, but I seriously doubt you will experience any spiritual blowback.

In my town, mohawks amongst highschoolers are quite common. Football teams will often get mohawks prior to big important games. People in my area are used to seeing mohawks. I never heard of any negative reaction from area Catholic parishes so I think you'll be okay.

The problem with a mohawk is that it can be a source of distraction for other parishioners during mass.

During mass, the focus of our attention should be on the priest, the worship of God, and on our own interior preparation for communion. However, like it or not, our minds and our gaze often can involuntarily wander. Having someone with a mohawk in the pew in front of me certainly wouldn't help matters.

Perhaps if you could comb the mohawk down to cover the sides of your head for mass....

The Holy Eucharist is what makes me want to go to mass every day.

The Old Testament predicted Christ would offer a sacrifice in bread and wine. Melchizedek was a priest and offered sacrifice with those elements (Gen. 14:18), and Christ was to be a priest in the order of Melchizedek (Ps. 110 [109]:4), that is, offering sacrifice under the forms of bread and wine. We must then look for a New Testament sacrifice distinct from that of Calvary, because the crucifixion was not of bread and wine. We find it in the Mass. There, bread and wine become the actual body and blood of Christ, as promised by him (see John 6:53–58) and as instituted at the Last Supper.

The Catholic Church teaches that the sacrifice of the cross was complete and perfect. The Mass is not a new sacrificing of Christ (he doesn’t suffer and die again, cf. Heb. 9:26), but a new offering of the same sacrifice. While what happened on Calvary happened once, its effects continue through the ages. Christ wants his salvific work to be present to each generation of those who come to God "since he always lives to make intercession for them" (Heb. 7:25). He surely has not abandoned us. Through the instrumentality of the priest, he is present again, demonstrating how he accomplished our salvation: "For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts" (Mal. 1:11).

As a younger and fairly liberal Catholic I would have no problem with it. But I know (at least in my church) there are large groups of elderly people that will try to give you a hard time about it.
As long as you are willing to put up with the occassional hassle, I don't think it will be an issue.
I think it would be pretty cool. :)
Good Luck!!

If you're really worried, you might ask your priest about it.

It wouldn't matter at all in my parish, which is the downtown parish but in a smallish city in Nebraska. We have quite a few people with interesting hair cuts or dye jobs. It really doesn't matter. We're all supposed to be thinking about Jesus anyway, not critiquing other people's appearances.

One of our altar servers has a mohawk. Sweet kid, very reverent and respectful. The elderly ladies love him. We all do, actually. I don't think you have much to worry about if your heart is in the right place.

God doesn't mind if you have a mohawk. But some old ladies might. Don't worry about them, it give them something to talk about.

God does not worry about your hair style. Others might, but God knows your heart.

I would go for a low maintenance style myself. Less hair, less hassle in the morning.

Your choice.

Unless you go to a Catholic School, most Catholics could care less about your hair style.
