There are 75,000 arrest warrants outstanding in Arizona, 40,000 of them are felony warrants, Joe Arpaio just told News 3 arresting illegal aliens is more important. Do you agree?

Although I believe in enforcing the laws on the books... I'd have to say that Joe Arpaio has contradicted himself in this case. I say contradicted himself because I am an avid viewer of CNN's "Out In The Open", and NightLine. And watching both those programs a couple of nights ago and in his own words when asked, Joe Arpaio said that he arrests everyone equally. I guess he leaves the warrant arrests up to the other Law Agencies to take of then so he can go after the illegals. Interesting that he says this now.

Not so much. While it's true that any citizen with an outstanding warrant is going to get caught as soon as he's stopped in traffic or otherwise comes in contact with the bureacracy, it's still of some importance to catch them sooner rather than later - particularly the felons.

OTOH, while arresting individual illegals just for being illegals can't be much of a priority (simply because there are so many of them, anything you prioritize it above will /never/ get done), it should be a much higher priority to target those who employ such illegals, and to fine them heavily enough that even those not 'raided' re-consider thier policy of exploiting illegals.

That would lead to decreased illegal immigration, and to 'self deportation' (illegals returning home for lack of job prospects in America). The remaining illegals could then be more practically persued and deported.

Are you actually serious Bombshell? A cut-and-paste about an illegal running a red light? Even for you, this is desperation stuff. You're beginning to make Jill Rose look like a beacon of sanity and reason by comparison.

I agree that more effort should be put into arresting the ones with outstanding warrants, but that doesn't mean the rest of them should get a free pass. How many of those Arizona warrants are for illegal aliens? I think that all violent offenders should be a priority, but that doesn't mean the rest of us can break other laws with impunity. So it should be the same for illegals.

Well, I think we have to enforce, or even if we decided the right thing to do was to keep the 'good sort' more would keep coming. So I don't think we can be in a situation where they purposely DON'T ask when law enforcement interacts (except for witnesses).

However, I sure think getting the 650,000 DHS predicted will be in our local and state jails this year who are NOT usually deported is much more to the point than raiding a business and letting most of the workers go anyhow, while we work this out.

That would be triple the number deported this year, in a year that was supposedly 'accelerated enforcement.'

And who knows? When only the 'good sort' are left, people may feel differently about them, or at least those who have been here long enough to put down roots.

However, we have to stop more from coming, and we need to enforce our laws and stop benefits in order to do that.

I don't expect you to agree, but you did ask.

People in this country who never lived in the city don't know how to set priorities. With prison overcrowding and limited resources already, we should definitely focus on career criminals and those that are violent and dangerous first, and when we begin to get a hold on that, we can worry about every little infraction that is ever committed.
Some people go after all the petty infractions first, so they look busy and don't have to confront more serious situations.

No, I disagree. I'm much more concerned about felons running around free than homeless people who snuck into the country to work for $5 an hour.

Illegals have already committed at least one crime by crossing our borders without permission. Most have committed more than one: working illegally, forged documents, and so forth. Every one of them needs to be deported as soon as possible.

And we need blanket arrests of illegals to get the message across that they are not welcome here and should make plans to self-deport.

And for those who are about to scream, "Racism," which always happens when there is no real argument about a point, send the illegal Irish home first. No one will care. This is not about race, it's about law.

You'd think felony warrants would be priority. But then again Sheriff's are elected into office so like a good politician he panders to votes. You'd think with all those illegals committing murder he'd leave them alone and clear out some of those felony offenders with illegals murdering them. Paid assassins incognito.

How important is to you to call yourselves Christians when you treat another human being like if they were lepers, How important is to you, your Soul that you sell it to the Devil when bashing the defenseless and abuse the power you have over them because you got papers, How important it is to you the Final judgment when God will come and judge you....What will be your excuse for being arrogant and perverse? how important it is to you not being kind and helpful? look at yourselves how many illegalities you have on you, then see the one of the neighbor
