when my boyfriend takes the dogs away for the weekend I am left alone. At night I can't sleep well because the dogs are not there.

I know if somebody breaks in the dogs will chase them away but when doggies are gone I feel insecure. Does anybody else feel this way?

Yes, my husband is deployed in iraq right now, and they are the only things that keep me sane. Not only do they keep me company but make me feel safe too. Dogs hear really well so I know they'd hear anything before I would. They are my little protectors :-)

Yes, I do feel safer. My husband is only home 3 to 4 days a month. He's a trucker. We have 4 yorkies, 1 boston, 1 australain shepherd, & 1 GSD mix. They sleep in my room everynight some on the bed, others on the floor. I'm also a good shot with a rifle . Between my firearms skills & the dogs , my husband sleeps better at night.

Absolutely! I know that the dogs will alert me to someone at the door, the smoke detector, and anything else out of the ordinary.
I have some loss of hearing, so I do not always hear little noises that might wake other people up.

Last year, 3 guys tried to rob me in an interstate rest area. Jonathan (my Collie), came to my rescue and ran them off before I could act. I have no doubt that he will protect me at home .

BTW, I'm not exactly a 'wuss'... I'm a guy who has worked in public safety for 30+ years and usually has a loaded weapon nearby. I just know that having dogs in the house is a great idea.

I hope your b/f will let you have the dogs stay with you in the future

I have 5 full grown Shar-Pei and 2 puppies. Not all are ever gone at the same time. At least 3 always remain home. I live in the country on 1 1/2 acres - so yes, I feel much more secure with them here.

YES! I would not feel as safe without my dogs here...unless I slept with a loaded gun next to the bed...My dobe has warned me before (growling and barking at all the doors and windows) of someone sneaking around outside..he was not happy until I locked everything and I got out our hand gun. Then he stopped and went to bed. He had me REALLY scared..but I'm relieved to know he's there protecting me..otherwise I would have left the back door and a window unlocked that I didn't realize were unlocked.

Oh my yes. I have 3 dogs and I feel completely safe with them in the house. I really miss them when I'm traveling for work too.

It honestly depends on the dog. If the dog is one of the kinds that are too lazy to life an ear, you shouldn't feel safer. If it is one of the dogs that would give their lives for their owner, yes, you should feel safer because yes, they are willing to sacrifice themselves for you if need be, but they still don't wanna die. ;)

I agree 1000%
The dogs should not be taken away if they live with you that is where they should be.
Sorry I keep saying They because I have two Akitia's..... and they are where I lay my head every night.

Tell the BF to leave yours with you or get your own Dog .

Good Luck

Absolutely. They always bark when they hear strange noises, which is good since dogs are such light sleepers and humans aren't! Dogs also will wake up first if there is a fire or other emergency.

I feel totally safe with my dogs. And I understand....my cousin stays at my place with my dogs when I travel. She walks em and says they totally bark at strangers or growl when people get close while walking them at night. No one bothers her with dogs around. They dont do this with me. Only when she or any of my female friends stay or walk em at night time. They dont do this during the day...just at night...or anytime someone they dont know gets too close....but not with me.

Very protective of females.

Tell your boyfriend to leave one behind at the least.
