He wrote and compiled the Prose Edda (younger Edda). It's one of the purest forms of lore we have outside of the Poetic Eddas

He was a 12th century Icelandic historian, poet and politician. He wrote a number of books on Norse mythology and poetry, and a history of the Norwegian kings.

Snorri proposed the theory that the gods were once human war leaders and kings who developed into gods through the worship of their followers and their follower's descendants.

What is most important though is that what he wrote is part of what is still used today by Heathens to help us reconstruct what we can of the religion our ancestors (either in flesh or spirit) practiced.
