Yeah I know that they are 'saving my settings' but they aren't MY settings. I don't conciously make changes to my system every time I use my computer so why do I have to wait while 'settings' are being saved?

I gues my point is that they are NOT my 'settings'. So who's 'settings' are being saved and for what purpose? It certainly isn't my choice and it isn't benefitting me in any way and its very very annoying.

Sometimes my computer takes longer than other times to shut down. I don't know why. I agree that the software folks and probably the marketing folks don't much care if we are irritated or not.

My pet peeve is how long it takes to boot up! All this crap on start up that just seems to appear and I am forever going out there and having to remove!♥

They don't? My main Ubuntu desktop shuts down it about 3 seconds, and I don't consuder that to be very long. It sounds like you may be using an operating system from Microsoft - they are notorious for performance degradation. If you are, then a format & reinstall will probably help considerably.
