My husband and i are looking into renewing our wedding vows. We had a very quick court house wedding and now want our children and family to be able to participate. But i'm unable to find answers to questions such as do I need a new marriage license? And typically which anniversary should we celebrate if we're getting remarried on a different date/month? Thanks to all who help with comments/answers!!!!

No, vow renewals are more for the couple, not for the law. You could always celebrate both anniversaries! Maybe you could celebrate the "original" one for just you two, and the second date could be a family thing, like maybe you could take the kids for a weekend away.

No you do not need a marriage license, you are already married. So the ceremony is just that a vow renewal ceremony. Also it shouldn't change your anniversary because you are just renewing your original vows, you arne't getting "remarried". Is there a reason why you are not renewing your vows on or near your anniversary?

Hi. NO. You do not get another marriage license. And you do not get re-married, it's simply a renewal of vows. You can celebrate either day (or both days!) as your anniversary if you want...but your REAL anniversary is the date you were married at the courthouse. Hope this helps answer your questions.

No, because you are already married. A renewal of wedding vows is NOT another wedding, it's basically an anniversary celebration. You're not getting remarried. Typically a couple has a blessing or short ceremony at their church or another location, with dinner and a bit of a party at home for their family and close friends. You celebrate your anniversary on your original wedding date, of course.

You don't need another license because you are already married. If your renewal vows are on a different date than your first ceremony, the first one is still the legally binding one.
However, I guess it's up to you to pick one to celebrate or celebrate both!

Renew My Vows

You CAN'T get another marriage license; you're married. You can renew your vow whenever and wherever you want. You can also celebrate one or both of the anniversaries.

No, you only need that once. You may need to show the officient a copy of your marriage certificate, though. My husband and I got married on my birthday, a quiet family occasion in a small church. Then we threw a big renewal and reception 5 months later with all of our friends and family. The renewal is what will be celebrated as our anniversary (so I still have my birthday to myself :D)

Can someone HELP me with a similar but slightly different question.
My wife and i were married in Jamia 24 years ago. We can find our marriage certificate whihc was a one line pen piece of paper. It has caused problems for us for many years in Tax and job applications who require it.
We havebeen on our marry ways however and lived without it.

I want to renew my voes for cerimpnial, but would also like to get n actual marriage certificate from the renewal to use for legal/financial purposes.

Will this work - what would be my real date of marriage then...
