is there any way to get sound from a RCA cable?

i have a hitachi 42" plasma that had some problems with not being able to accept any audio coming into the tv set. is there a way that i can get sound from say my xbox without playing the sound through the tv.

the video works perfectly and i have had the tv in a repair shop for 4 weeks and i was told it was not fixable

The xbox component cables that enable the HD output have a small square on the connector for a toslink optical cable. You can run this straight to a AV receiver to get 5.1 sound.

If your receiver only has a spare coaxial-digital input (an RCA jack) Radio Shack has a converter for about $15 that converts optical to coaxial-digital.
