It may sound like a strange question but for years I have used the expression 'Oh My god', as its something I picked up from tv and music and everyday life, Its not even something I think about before saying, However one of my close friends who is a christian recently said that they found my use of it offensive, since this I have stopped saying it around them so not to hurt there feelings but it did get me wondering if its really that offensive anymore? I mean it has become so popular and widely used I would of thought most of the blasphemous nature it once had has pretty much gone and I didnt even consider it to be inappropriate.
What do you think?

It replaced into cultural ask your self to me. I understand their meaning. they think of those sentences are speaking God's call in ineffective. yet in some custom in case you're taking God's call in any context you circulate to heaven. it is undemanding prepare in India to grant your newborn a acceptance of God, the theory is which you will call your newborn in some time of want, it might look such as you're calling for Him, and you'd be saved. in elementary terms a silly little tale i heard previously.

i've always been a little offended but not enough ro really ever say anything. it's not that big of a deal to me. i'm sure it offends God tho. at the same time i bet He gets a good laugh out of it. people who could care less about God; use His name like it's nothing and don't realize the power that His name represents; yet when they're in a difficult situation will do one of two things: cry out to God or blame Him. if God said "do not take the name of the Lord in vain" i'm pretty sure He meant it.
how offended would some people be if we all started going around saying 'oh my allah' or 'allah dammit'. sure it sounds weird, but just imagine what chaos it would create. if we're that concerned about some gods we should be like that about all gods. whether they're the Creator of the universe or any other god.

I'm a Christian and it does not bother me if people say "Oh my God." I think its pretty funny when people who do not belief in God use the phrase, however, just as I do when someone does not believe in Jesus uses his name as an expression of disbelief or astonishment.

I don't find it offensive, but i do find it dis-respectful. I myself used to say "oh my God" all the time. Than i realized it wasn't nessicary and was wrong. Belive it or not it wasnt that hard to switch God to gosh. And within 2 weeks i wasn't using God's name in vain.

Don't say it around them, but in other situations its just fine. Its hard to say what you want to or feel like should be around others. If someone approaches you about it, don't use it when their in the area or you know they won't appreciate it. Also, think before you speak.

I find it interesting how most people say that and yet don't know God at all. so those of us who have a relationship with him may be offended because it is our father and I guess if you call my father your father you better mean it .

Many Christians and non-Christians alike use this phrase because it has become part of our cultural vernacular.

It is hurtful to me.
I find it disrespectful.

If someone says it around me, I remain silent, though.

I would think that intelligent people would have a more extensive vocabulary from which to choose to express themselves.
