This is my first female cat, and she now 6 months into her life and in heat. She will be getting sprayed at the end of the month but until then I'm wondering if there is any way for me to help her.
My two male cats have been neutered and don't seem to have any "interest" in her. In fact they seem very annoyed with her bothering them. I'm afraid they will hurt her.
She's an indoor cat and i'm keeping her from trying to get outside but please...if there is any other way for me to help her...please tell me.
It's my fault that I didn't get her sprayed earlier, so I want to make her comfortable as possible before her big surgery.
Any ideas?
Ps. I read somewhere that being in heat is painful for cats. Is that true?

Keep her indoors, and get her spayed as soon as possible.
Also, make sure you watch as you go in and out of your home, females in heat will dart out and it only takes once, and you'll be dealing with kittens.
Additionally, females in heat are ditzy, and could run out in the street and get killed.

I dont think being in heat is painful. They are just really, really horny! Dont let her outside. You should leave her in a room alone if you can. Otherwise there's not much you can do but wait it out. By the way you didn't wait too long. You can get a cat spayed earlier or at this time, or later. I've had 2 females go into heat at 6 months, right before their spays, unfortunately somehow they both ended up getting fixed when they were still in heat... I didn't know it. Apparently they CAN be fixed, but it costs a lot more.

I don't know if it is true that being in heat is actually painful for cats, although having had a few females cats years ago who went into heat it sounded like it was and my first husband put them out just so he didn't have to listen to them.
(hmm this may be part of why he soon after became my x )
.....and, one came back home quite content the next morning and very with kittens.
It is a very good idea to keep her inside. (pats on your back for this choice on your part)
If you have a room or even a half bath I would suggest you put her in it with plenty of food, water and a comfortable spot to rest in order to keep her separate from the male cats if you fear they may fight with her if they get too annoyed with her unwanted attentions.
then I'd go in from time to time to pet her and speak softly.
the good news is that being in heat usually only lasts a few days and at worst its only a couple more weeks before she will be spayed.
just hang tight and don't let her carrying on get to you. Its not really pain that she is expressing but actually she is calling for a mate.

You'll feel more pain than she will - they just become so darn annoying! And definitely do all that you can to keep her inside.
Thanks for getting her spayed - she'll be much happier afterward. Don't worry too much about the surgery - it's not so big and very routine for any vet to do. She'll be sleepy the first day home and then start getting back to her old self right after that. They recover fast.

Do NOT let her outside. The world is full of enough unwanted kittens as it is.
Keep her separated from your male cats in case they do decide to hurt her (you never know I suppose).
Get her spayed as soon as absilutely possible.
Other than that, there's not really much you can do. Being in heat is natural and I'm sure she's fine.

No, its not painful to be in heat. She might be more noisy, and more amorous towards the other cats (the neutered males in your household), but it doesn't hurt her. (Mating however can be painful) Just keep her inside ands away from any possibility of getting pregnant, then get her fixed ASAP.
If she gets pregnant, it will cost more to get her fixed.

Maybe you should ask a vet and not people who are giving stupid answers. They should know something good to do for the cat

being in heat is NOT painful...it's like a person being horny...
now get her some diapers. (yes they make diapers for cats.) it will help with the discharge and keep her from rubbing up against the annoyed male cats. (diapers found in any pet store, probably Wally World, Target, and K-Mart ( I'm not familiar with Target and K-Mart pet depts)

I'm sorry for your cat. You should consult with the vet NOW. Or try to make your cat more attrative by buying a new cat. GET her sprayed if you don't want your cat to suffer. Heat is painful for cats according to my research.

The only thing to help settle kitty down is to go to vet or health food store and get some valerian drops and ask the vet or clerk to explain to you precisely how much to use in milady's water bowl. It'll settle all the cats down.
THEN, go to your doctor and ask him for a very mild sedative for you. Milady will still be in heat but y'all really won't care.
