We don't use the symbol of the cross because we worship the resurrected, living Christ. We recognize that His death was important, but the resurrection is more important.

That's not what we believe, sweetie. We fully believe Christ suffered on the cross. That was a major part of the Atonement. You might want to check your sources. And we don't consider the cross a torture device, no matter how greatly Christ suffered while on it. We don't think of it as a death symbol. And we do not ignore that part of the Atonement at all. Where in the world are you getting your information? For the record, though, the fact that our art work and so on focuses more on the resurrected Christ is not a slur against the cross. Though the cross is the most common symbol of Christianity, there isn't any rule saying it must be the only one. This hardly makes us less Christian. After all, isn't the important thing to keep Christ in mind?

I always say to people "I wouldn't wear a gun if Jesus had been shot, so I won't wear a cross because He was crucified". Personally, I believe that we celebrate in reverence the whole atonement - not just His death, which Christians should be reminded of daily in prayer and every Sunday as the sacrament is taken.
I don't find it offensive when people wear crosses, but I feel that we worship the Saviour, not the cross.

Like it was said in another answer, there really isn't anything wrong with wearing a cross (for the right reasons). I would suggest focusing on other topics. No where in the baptismal or temple interviews are we asked if we wear crosses. If he brings it up, then explain to him how you feel about it. If he doesn't, go on teaching and being an example.
Good luck!!!

The cross is one symbol of Christ. It represents his pain and death. To me it is too sacred to use as ornamental jewelry. The cross was not used in the primitive church as a symbol. They used the fish. It was not until Constantine that it was used. Since he is associated with the Apostacy, the purpose is clouded.

There is nothing in mormon doctrine that says you can or cannot wear a cross... just like there is nothing in the doctrine that says you have to wear a CTR ring. I say, if it reminds you of Christ go for it, but its not necessary for your salvation to wear one.

If you don't have this answer on your own, perhaps it should not be a rule you follow so rigidly.

Dont they teach you that you dont believe in the same Jesus that Christians do. Jesus' who was God the Word before He became flesh, has always existed and was not a brother to lusifer

why the heck (i censored myself for you) would you follow part of your doctrine you didn't understand? and you would be so bold to try to stop a fellow human (your brother even) of doing something in your doctrine that you don't understand?
does this scream INSANITY to anyone else?
