Because "Jesus dying for sins" is an ancient paganistic human blood sacrifice ritual, and has never been found in Judaism as the role of the Messiah, or for anything else, for that matter. It is pagan. It doesn't come from Judaism.
Also, the Jews didn't wander in the desert for 40 years in order to obtain forgiveness for sin. Don't know where you got that idea. Probably more Church misinformation propaganda.

It's not that big a desert, and not so far from civilization. Religious archaeologists have been highly motivated to find the evidence, but so far have only found some corals in the Red Sea that look like wheels if you squint hard enough. It may be that the evidence is there and hasn't been found yet, but since the desert is small and well-explored, that seems unlikely. There are Egyptian records of Israelites living in Egypt at some point, so the historians guess that they migrated through the desert gradually, in small groups, and hearsay inflated it into the tale of Exodus.

Because the Jews had formed their own country and bristling with weapons, intimidation and arrogance, pissed off all of their neighbors who finally couldn t take it and collectively kicked the Jews out of their neighborhood. It took two thousand years to forget why Jews should not be allowed to have their own country. As a resurgent, worldwide, anti-semitism shows itself, this time for good reason, will the Jews be sent on the second Diaspora? Just speculation, based on not finding much of a reason for the first Diaspora.

Because Moses lost a half sheckel on his first trip through.
The real reason according to the Torah is that when the spies came back, they spoke evil of the land. And they did not trust in G-d to bring them to the land. When they came back, the people listened to their evil report. This generation, because they did not trust G-d had to die out before the new generation was able to have enough trust to bring them in.
Isn't this a lot like what happens in many lives? We get a flash of belief in G-d, but then we listen to others without belief and start to doubt. During this period of doubt, we wander in the desert. Then finally we get it. We trust in G-d and are brought closer to spiritual completion.
note: Whenever we study Torah, we should derive a lesson for our own lives. That's the reason it's there. Not to criticize others, but to help us to improve ourselves.

Because it wasn't a matter of paying for sin. They had to wander in the desert as a punishment for wrongdoing.
It's more comparable to catching an STD in punishment of extramarital sex; it's a consequence. If we are covered by Jesus (aka saved) then we don't have to pay for sin (suffer in hell), but we do have to deal with any consequences for sin.
I'm saved, but if I do something sinful, I have to deal with a broken friendship, physical suffering, or spiritual distance. It has nothing to do with my salvation, because I'm paid for.

That was earthly punishment for worshiping an idol instead of God. Jesus still hadn't died, and in fact wouldn't for hundreds of years. As to why, God said so.

It teaches us that we will make mistakes no matter how smart, wonderful, "religious," we are and that we needed for Jesus to die for our sins because we aren't perfect.

They couldn't get it right. Wasn't easy to get Egypt out of their heads and everytime they disobeyed God, He told them to take another trip around that mountain. After all God payed for their shoes that didn't wear out.

he didn't. he died for his own crimes. I follow the system established before him- it's not broke so it doesn't need fixed. Jezus has nothing to do with Judaism.
but you've got some particulary 'off' answers ,here...
