Can PS3 discs work on PS2 systems so basically can you play ps3 discs on ps2 systems?

Ummm... NO.
The PS3 games are on Blu-ray discs
PS2 only has a DVD-rom drive
I won't even go near the fact the PS2 has hasn't got near the power to display a PS3 game.

No you cannot work for PS3 disc for PS2 system. But PS3
system can played PS2 disc and PS One disc.

PS2 games use DVD's, PS3 games Blu-Ray DVD's and PS3 games are way more technologically advanced than PS2 games. A PS2 doesn't have the technology or hardware to run a PS3 game.
A PS2 cannot play PS3 games. The only way to play PS3 games is to get a PS3. There wouldn't be a PS3 if PS3 games could be played on a PS2.

No. PS3 discs can only be played on a PS3 system.
