Yes, Judisim came before Christianity.

The Day of Pentecost was when the Holy Spirit came to indwell believers permanently as they believed upon Christ. Before that the Holy Spirit would come and go.

II Samuel 28:15-17 God had departed from Saul and had given the kingdom to David.

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him (Saul/Paul), he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

Judaism was around long before Christianity. In the Old Testament, Judaism is the primary religion, but it was different than now because Christ hadn't come yet. They were still waiting for the Savior, and when He did come, believers in Him became Christian, but the Jews are still waiting for their savior. I take no offense in that statement because it is a fact; many of Christianity's roots are in Judaism.

You are implying that this is a matter of subjective opinion. It isn't. Judaism DID come before Christianity, and that is fact. It remains fact irrespective of some people choosing to disbelieve it.

Jesus was born a Jew, he lived as a practising Jew, and he never rejected nor renounced his faith. He died a Jew when the Romans crucified him.

And yes, I know I'll now get thumbs down for this statement of fact; but it doesn't make it less true.

Yes, Judaism was the religion of the Jews (Hebrews). Those Jews that accepted Jesus as the Messiah were the first Christians.

Christianity is simply the promises of the Old Testament. Christianity just means a follower of Christ, which technically would occur after his death, but many of the Old Testaments prophet were focused on the promises of the Messiah, which in reality they themselves would be called Christians for their faith.

Of course, Judaism came before Christianity. What's the problem?

Christianity is the fulfillment of Judaism. Some Jews just missed the boat. Judaism is the history of Christianity.

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

I would say that Judaism is the beginnings of Christianity.....God is trying to show the Jewish people how much they need God...that they cannot make it on their own...it points all the time to the Messiah, who is Jesus. God had a plan from the beginning to send his Son..he knew the Jews could not keep the laws,,,but he wanted them to know that too. You see how that turned out...

tRemember, the first converts to Christianity were Jews,,those who followed Jesus,,,,those in the upper room,,,,those who first took the message to the Jews about the Messiah,,,,,,,Paul was the one chosen to deliver the message to the Gentiles. But they all worked hand in hand,,,,the Jewish converts and the Gentile converts....all one message.....all one way to salvation,,,,through Jesus....the plan of salvation was fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

I would accept it because it did come before. Just because a religion has been around longer does not mean it's better. Jesus died about 2000 years ago, but humans have been around for about 400000 years. Christianity was born when Jesus died. Judaism came before.
