I'm having an afternoon wedding and I plan on having the same dancing and everything as a night wedding! People expect the food and dancing I think regardless of time of day and as long as you get your bridal party dancing everyone else will follow!

Technically you are having an evening wedding. If you do your ceremony at 3pm then pictures to follow dinner would probably be served between 5 and 7. Then dancing from 7 until ?? Formality doesn't change anything, if you have a good D.J. people will automatically start dancing.

You will have dancing in the evening.... You need to leave an hour for the ceremony, then you will go for pictures. If you plan for cocktails at 5:30, dinner will be at 6:30, then after program and cake cutting, dancing will be good to go about 8:30 p.m.

If your ceremony is starting at 3pm then it will be almost evening by the time the pictures and meal and speeches are over. We had an afternoon reception and people danced.

In my area, people typically get married at 2PM-3PM in the afternoon, then their receptions last until 7 or 8ish. There is always music and always a first dance, regardless. :) Also, the weddings in my area generally aren't formal, so people come in everything from a church clothes to cocktail apparel. It doesn't matter what you're wearing when you're dancing.

You can do whatever you want! If your ceremony is at 3, your reception won't start until 4 at the earliest anyway, so you're heading into the evening. Dance away!
I've actually only heard of people NOT having dancing when their religions forbade it. Formality doesn't matter.

My wedding was at 10:30AM and we danced all afternoon! You can have a big reception with dancing at any time if that is what you want, good luck!

Just be prepared for not as crazy of a party as you once imagined. People will still dance though - weddings are always good for that no matter what time of day. Go ahead and book the DJ or band. It will be great.

You can have dancing so long as people want to dance. It is my observation that people don't really start dancing until it gets dark, but as long as there's good music and alcohol anything can happen.

The tea dance has been with us for a long long time. Serve a few bloody mary's or mimosas, and you can have dancing at breakfast too ;) Put on those bridal sneakers and shake your booty, lady in white! Congrats, best wishes, and have a ball.
