Will I need to back up microsoft files when downgrading Vista?

Hi all, this is my first question. When downgrading my Vista Basic and storing my files onto a disk, is it imperative that i store major Microsoft and Windows files like system 32 and fonts, or are these likely to remain after the downgrade?

You need to back up your files (documents, pictures and video). Hopefully you have the installation disks for your programs to reinstall. Good luck.
