This is a serious question.
I can open/close the gas valve remotely but also need to ignite it remotely.

contact the people and fireplace patio and more or one of those outfits like em that specializes in outdoor patio stuff and they can get you a longer lead for the sparking device so you can do it from a remote distance course when you fire up a grill it will always be safer when you are in attendence not some where in the distance

I'd rig up 12VDC, a relay and an automobile ignition coil with a spark plug strategically placed, remembering to provide a ground return or you might get shocks.

This is far too easy...
remove the ignitor from the front of the grill, cut the wires, extend and resplice the wires so the ignitor is now in the house....
have fun and don't blow anything up...

Put one wire to the electrode of a spark plug, one to the base. The base wire to the neg of a 12vdc. battery, the electrode to the neg, side of a 12 vdc. coil. The pos side of the coil goes to the pos side of the battery. You put the plug in the path of the propane, and put a button in the path of the pos. wire. Watch this

you can run wiring from a button, like a doorbell or garage door opening, from inside your house to your BBQ. When you push the button, it causes a spark.

First get a long stick, then what you do is light it on fire (remember that the stick needs to be really long), then what u do is stick the fire in the grill while the gas is on. but be careful
