in regards to a question asked just a few moments ago
someone was asking how she could tell if her religion was the correct religion
most Christian responses were that you can tell by what the bible has to say

And Mao's little red book was quite approving of Chairman Mao, I understand. And he clearly approved of it.

Self -authenticating positions are not necessarily invalid, but you have to break into the loop somewhere to establish that mutual reinforcement in the first place.

But then, I've had epistemelogical issues ever since I found my parents had lied to me about Father Christmas.
If you can't trust your parents to tell you the truth, who can you trust?
And that is not a trivial question.
Trust the news, the government, your preacher, a book..?
But there are alternates with other viewpoints to all of those.

Genesis 2:16-17 16 The LORD God gave man this order: "You are free to eat from any of the trees of the garden 17 except the tree of knowledge of good and bad. From that tree you shall not eat; the moment you eat from it you are surely doomed to die." ===================== According to the Bible, man was perfect until he attempted to know good and evil. As soon as he made that attempt to have the powers of judgment, he was doomed to die. Isn't it remarkable how thoroughly that lesson has been ignored by the fundamentalists? God puts a naked, unmarried man and woman together, and the only thing he tells them not to do is to try to learn what is good and what is evil. To hear the fundamentalists tell it, it's exactly the other way around - that judging good and evil is what we should do, and that being around naked people of the other sex is what we shouldn't do. I'd have liked to have thought that they could have at least read the first two short chapters of the Bible, but apparently that's beyond them.

It really makes no sense. Some Christians hold themselves so tied to the Bible, it's not funny. Sometimes I ask a question here and I ask them not to mention a verse from the Bible, they all freak out and have not much to say. They are so tied to the Bible that they can't even think by themselves... it is sad!!

Peace!

I agree. It's circular logic that the faithful seem to be blind to.

"Well the buybull is the word of gawd and I know this because the buybull says so". - Typical fundie answer.

It's only in this case that such a thing could be accepted as truth without them questioning it. Such proof wouldn't work in any other case so why do they think it works then?

It would be if one person wrote it. But in fact the Bible is a mini-library setting out events and prophecies over a 4000 year period. Its veracity is demonstrated with fulfilled prophecies {some of which have occurred in modern times} and through the computer-read-only 'Bible Codes. Plus, the advice for living has been effective for millenia. It's trustworthy all right.

I don't think any of us know until the Lord intervenes in our life.
Salvation is knowing it is right and the Holy Spirit is teaching us what is right as we read the Word of God or hear the Word of God. However, one word from the Lord changes everything. Every word ever spoken to me has not been forgotten. I forget many things but never what God has said audibly to me. One word from the Lord and you hunger, thirst and yearn to hear His voice again. In His presence we change. At some point in our relationship with the Lord, He strengthens our faith in Him. And all He has to do is show up or speak to us and we change.

May the Lord make Himself known to you. Absolutely the nicest thing that I can say to anyone.

The fact that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, says every one will rise as well.
Because he was the first, there is no one lying in a grave their spirits are alive, and where they are depends on how they lived their lives. Jesus did say there were many mansions, so that is where you will go like it or not, your place will be prepared for you, so be good boys and girls.

Ok, What did it for me was a simple question

Did Jesus come back to life from the dead ?

Biblically and historically I found that to be true.

As well as the actions of the Apostles after the resurrection

So if Jesus was who He said He was, then the Bible is true.

What makes confusion is how man has changed the Bible and how man does not study the Bible.

You are correct, it is a logical fallacy known as "begging the question" or "circular reasoning". Basically, their premise is the same as their conclusion, rendering the whole argument moot...
