Forget about the "separation of church and state" argument....isn't it disgusting that any government official resorts to voodoo to solve a crisis? Was this guy elected to organize prayer meetings, or was he put their to run the state?

After reading some of the responses it's quite clear some people get it, some people don't.
Praying for rain? "There's no harm?" "It gives people hope...what's wrong with that", etc.

It's wrong because...IT DOESN'T WORK!

It's wrong because..THAT'S NOT WHAT HE'S THERE FOR!

It's wrong because...IT WILL EVENTUALLY RAIN

It's wrong because...ALL THE IGNORANT PEOPLE WHO'LL THINK IT WORKED WILL THINK PRAYER IS THE ANSWER FOR EVERYTHING!

It's wrong because...IF PRAYER REALLY WORKS LIKE THAT WHY NOT JUST PRAY TO FIX EVERYTHING?

It's 2007 people! Get a clue!

On top of all that ,I think he was just a bit selfish . He didn't ask for 'his' God to help the other states, did he? What if it rains so hard that people die? Can the idiot be charged with "reckless prayers"?

No need for contemporary man/woman to dismiss everything they don't understand as superstition or stupidity. What's wrong with prayer? It probably gave all the participants a chance to realize what wanton, wasteful lives they lead. Regardless of whether it brings forth rain, if even one of those people grows in understanding from the experience, then it was worth it. Ultimately, that's what prayer is all about. God doesn't need humankind's prayers, it is humans who need them as a means to restore some humility in callous hearts.

It certainly can't do any harm. And what if it works/worked? I heard the weather today and there was a possibility of rain.

The word "dominion" in the Book of Genesis could be updated to "lominion," the Loving Dominion we really want, by those asking for divine intervention (not just in Georgia) in our bad habits as poor caretakers of the environment.

If someone were on national television asking everyone
to wear purple socks to make the sun shine, they would
think he was nuts.

Explain the difference.

It's America, you can do whatever religious thing you want to do. As long as its not a law forcing anyone to do it, its perfectly fine.

Well, it's not costing us anything, and it sure won't hurt the situation. When's the last time you did something about the weather?

The Governor is also a private citizen. He can do whatever he thinks is best, or whatever is within his powers to do.

Well, if you don't want to pray, then don't.
Why don't you just Hope and wish them the best then
