Surgery is based on the weight of the dog ,and the time it would take to operate, the general anesthetic that is given is cost-ed by the weight of the dog,
i presume your dog has a luxating patella, surgery is not always recommended in the first instance, normally your dog would be on caged rest for two weeks then brought back to the vet for another examination, did your vet not tell you this when you went for your consultation the first time.
i would make another appointment to discuss costs the prices vary to whether you have an orthopedic vet doing the surgery at a orthopedic hospital or whether your own vet can perform the surgery

If you are talking about luxated patellas then the vet needs to do x-rays and find out what grade the luxation is.
The best vet for your dog to see is a orthopedic specialist.

Plenty of dogs live with some degree of luxation. If they are not experiencing any pain or lameness then the vets do not operate.

But if your dog is really limping, in pain, or is weak then, your dog may need/require the surgery.

The surgery price can vary it depends where you are and how long it takes ect. It is probably around $2,500-$3,000+(just a guess).

Talk to the vet about your dog and they will help you determine if your dog needs surgery.

If your dog needs surgery you should go to a board certified surgeon. Do not use your personal Vet for this type of surgery. A Vet can provide basic surgery and dental work, but for a joint you need to go to a specialist.
My dog had to have back surgery and the cost was approximately 4K dollars. I would imagine that surgery for a joint would run you a similar amount, but remember to use a specialist when it comes to these types of surgery.

Only a vet can tell you what exactly you're looking at after examining the dog. Most offices will work out a payment plan for you. Please take your dog to the vet. Remember that it is animal cruelty if you do not provide veterinary care for your pets when they need it. This is one of those times where your dog needs it. Worse case scenario give the dog to a rescue if you can not afford to make payments. Good luck!

It depends on the size of the dog (for anesthetic, which goes by weight) and the severity of the injury. It also varies from area to area and even from vet to vet.

Ask your vet (and possibly some others in the area) for a quote.

The only one who could tell you that would be your vet. How do you know he has a dislocated knee?

If you are talking about luxating patellas then you need to contact an orthopedic vet that specializes in just orthopedics! Have your vet give you a referral for one.
