as the above had told you, you can get a bus from the southern bus terminal, there are many company's at the terminal, some stop anywhere from it's starting point to ending point to pickup and drop off passengers. I recommend you find a VIP 24 passenger bus to Phuket, more room and comfort. these buses will cost an average of about 800 to 1,000 baht one way, diesel prices have been increasing the cost almost weekly. it's about a 12 hour trip recommend you get one that leaves about 8 or 9 pm and arrive the following morning..

You have to take a bus from the Southern Bus terminal as describe below from Wikitravel.org.
http://wikitravel.org/en/Bangkok/Thonburi#By_bus
By bus
After missing numerous deadlines, the Southern Bus Terminal is now scheduled to move to a new, even more remote location in Phutthamonthon Soi 1 on December 3, 2007, with some services starting November 1st. The terminal is reachable on buses 515 and 549 and from Suvarnbhumi Airport with bus 556. Enquire locally.
The prices are set locally. The bus companies do NOT have a website. They are losing money so, they don't have funds to have a website.
Here are the alternatives as described by ThaiwayMagazine.com:
http://www.thaiwaysmagazine.com/phuket/phuket_how_to_get_there.html
For a 12 hour bus ride. I think a 1+ hour flight is alot easier. Keep in mind Thailand is still a 3rd world country.
Good luck

Taking a bus is a lengthy, lengthy, tedious experience and is notorious for robbery etc. Trains are the better option. Take a prepare to Suratthani then a 5hr bus experience to Phuket. you'll pay better than a bus notwithstanding it really is properly extremely well worth the convenience and the protection. once you ought to take a bus then make positive you flow for the authorities buses and not the buses from Khao San highway. flow for the great VIP buses with 24 or 32 seats. extra legroom and extra mushy and the seats are better and they recline. be positive to shop all valuables on you and not your suitcase (it really is stowed lower than the bus and that is the position a majority of robbery occurs). do no longer settle for food and water from strangers as there have been circumstances the position you're drugged and robbed at the same time as you sleep. further be careful once you sleep and carry your resources tight. i do not recommend to scare you yet this happens way too commonly to be taken gently. Like I reported much better to take a prepare. Or evaluate flying by ability of Air Asia, One-2-flow airways or Nok Air. Tickets are less costly (more lower priced than 1st class prepare tickets or perhaps 2d class) and it in difficulty-free words takes an hour to fly there. One-2-flow in a lot of circumstances has less costly air tickets for in difficulty-free words 999 baht (incorporates all taxes and charges). i'm no longer positive about Koh Larn (??) yet Phi Phi, at the same time as beautiful, is overpriced. both way good success, be careful and characteristic exciting :)

Depends on the quality of bus, but generally it's about 800-1000 baht one way so just take that times 2. Here is a timetable for you.

Check www.airasia.com once in awhile. Believe it or not it is sometimes cheaper to fly when they have their 299 specials. MOST the time, the bus is cheapest. Train is not an option because it doesn't go to Phuket.

Dude, seriously, you are not taking a bus from Bangkok to Phuklet....
Is it due to fear of flying? In this case, skip the trip. This bus ride will, most likely, give you an incurable fear of buses.
Thailand has not worked out their mass transit system yet.
Plane is the only way to go. (and not suffer inhumanely)
It can be quite quick and cheap.

start at about 600bht single for the charabanc, more for extra comfort and less fannying about.......,try sawasdee.com or daveowen49@hotmail.com......don't know about return, never bought one,but about 1000? Transport costs are rising fast in thailand (as everywhere) diesel has almost doubled in 3 years thanks in part to the (terminally?) ill dollar......and it takes about 11-12 hours one way
