My 6 year old has difficulty, or is slower, to comprehend things. What wold be a good way to help out? 1st grade. He gets it but slower than what I would like. Or am I wrong or freaking out, SOS.

Im not sure what stage you are at but my 5 year old was 'struggling' this summer. Her father was freaking out thinking she was slow and even when school started...(1st grade) she seemed a bit behind, but there is a point where they have that 'epiphany' of learning. When they finally realize that letters create words and they can actually figure them out...its when the world opens up to them. If he hasnt gotten to that point, I encourage you to be as encouraging as possible. Make it fun too... when Im doing homework with my 5 & 7 year old I have a funny voice that I use from the little designer lady in Mr. Incredible. The kids love when I compliment them with that scratch 'dahhhling' voice. If your son is still struggling by midyear, then meet with the teacher and ask if they are noticing anything.

One thing that you can do is talk to the school. They can run some tests on him and see how he acts for his age, and they can determine if he needs some extra help.

Good thing that you have noticed something with him while he is young. I hope everything works out! Good luck

So your child has a problem learning at the speed you want. Get the book from the teacher, and work with him at night. If he's getting it, HE'S DOING THE BEST HE CAN!!!!! Don't be so hard on him. Remember, he has your genes too.

Is the school worried about it? If so, take the advice of the teacher.
