It's possible, but they're well trained on how to avoid it. They don't know everything, since they're human. They're well trained. Get an Oral Surgeon. They're required to be a dentist and a medical doctor, to have that title.

Don't worry about it too much, life goes on. It's unlikely anyways. Permanent numbness would suck, but somehow things would work out. Try not to worry about it too much.

First piece of advice, please go to an oral surgeon for this procedure NOthing against dentist, but oral surgeons do this every day.

i had one of the most easy wisdom teeth surgeries. even easier than my braces. I was so afraid of going under, I had never been put out before. so that was freaking me out. i had all four teeth fully exposed. two big molars on the bottom, and two tiny mutant ones on top. start to finish the whole thing was 50 minutes. Since I had nicely exposed teeth with shallow roots, it was a total breeze. I had no stitches, required no pain meds, other than good dose of advil. I had solid, albeit soft, raviolis for dinner. I think I was fully healed a week later.

My mom and brother on the other hand had extreme opposite experience. My mom's were completely impacted in two spots. and she ended up with dry socket, which caused pain for over two weeks and required treatment by her dentist.

my brother was like me, fully exposed teeth, but VERY BIG ROOTS. He had his done, not sedated, numbed up at a dentist, insted of oral surgeon, and the doctor broke one of the teeth roots when doing the extraction and he had to be rushed over to an oral surgeon.

the permanent number is a possibilty, especially if you have a nerve wrapped around one of the roots. and it usually is more likely if you have impacted teeth that are trapped.

i was so worried about mine for no reason.

I spit up blood bad for two days and spit up blood for a total of two weeks. i had numbness only until that same evening, no bad pain except trying to eat.
