I want to buy either a ps3 or a xbox360 what is the the better of the 2 systems and why different harddrives?

you are better off getting a ps3 because...

- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player

-ps3 supports 1.3 HDMI which has rich colors and xbox supports 1.2 HDMI

- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)

- because of the blu-ray's huge space, ps3 will have WAY better graphics than 360

- online is free for ps3 not like 360

- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring

- you can browse the internet on ps3, no such thing for xbox 360

- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it

- developers stated that they will start using ps3 as the lead platform and port ps3 games to xbox

- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)

- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p

- built in Wi-Fi

- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: .2% hardware failure(see the decimal? less than 1%!)

- ps3 has better back-comp except the 40gb

- rumble returns in spring 2008

- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD

Now I want you to do me a favor, list all the reasons why xbox is better than ps3. I PROMISE you that nobody will get at least 5 reasons

if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars, so that means ps3 is actually cheaper

The PS3 plays full 1080p hi-definition wheras the Xbox just upscales the image. The internet gaming is free for the PS3 so over 5 years that's £200/$270 saved compared to Xbox live. If you like online play there's Warhawk and Unreal Tournament 3 is coming out. Also the Playstation Network has Little Big Planet and Home coming to it.
Blu-ray discs mean that more can be stored on PS3 games allowing them to be bigger. An Xbox DVD holds about 8GB but a single layer Blu-ray disc holds 25GB and a dual layer holds 50GB yet a 360 game costs the same as a PS3 game. The PS3 is a very cheap Blu-ray player while you have to buy a £120/$200 add-on to play HD-DVD movies.
The PS3 has been out a year less than the 360 and it's graphics are already equalling or bettering those on the 360. As the developers become better at developing games for the PS3 the gap will only widen. As far as games go most of the better games for the Xbox are either multi-platform or going to come out for the PC at some point like Gears of War and Halo 1 & 2 already have. The PS3 has Uncharted, Killzone 2, Haze, MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, Ratchet and Clank, and God of War 3 as well as the multi-platform titles like Call of Duty 4. Finally the PS3 has much better hardware than the Xbox which has massive 30% failure rate.

The Xbox's strengths are that it's cheaper (but I don't think it is in the long run) and Xbox live is probably better (but you have to pay).

The original Xbox only had a lifespan of 4 years and with the 360's problems it may only last another 2-3. The PS2 had a lifespan of 6 years and the PS3 is planned to last 7-10 years. All PS3 controllers are rechargeable, you just connect them to the USB port, but you have tobuy a rechargeable battery pack if you don't want to use AA batteries. It is the most value for money as all models have a hard drive, a HDMI port, and Wi-fi built in but foe the 360 you have to pay more in some way or another for these features.

I think your personal preference for the games on each system should be what you base your decision on but I'd go for a PS3.

The different models for each is to give you choice depending on how much memory you might use and how much you want to spend. The hard drives are used to store demos, videos, and game saves as well as downloaded updates. With the PS3 can increase memory with any hard drive that will connect to the USB 2.0 and you can do it with the 360 but it has to be a Microsoft hard drive.

Buy a Ps3 Dude.If you look at it the PS3 40gb is the same price as xbox 360 20gb. and Xbox 360 elite is the same price as a PS3 80gb. and It's pretty much like sony gave away the blu ray player. Sony cares for ppl buy give good deals.they also make relably consoles. buy a PS3, you wont regreat it. Ps3 is even getting better because if you see the games that come on both system PS3 has gotten better graphics and can do more things at once.This is because developer are starting to knbow how the PS3 work and can do great things with it in the future. not going to get into details but get a PS3 man. It's getting better with games(that was the main problem). and it's more then a console. it an entertainment center for the same price as a 360. you would need a bigger hardrive if you play a lot of games, like storing music on your console and demos' movies, later sony will put downloadable PS1 and PS2 games full versoins. and a lot more.20gb seems like a lot but most of it goes to waist because of the system setting and stuff. and PS3 is just cheaper to get a big hardrive. you can get like 200GB for like $100 and on the Xbox 360 you have to buy a microsoft hardrive and it only comes in 20 and 120gb and the 20gb is like $100 and 120 is like $200- $300.
Buy PS3 free online that is being updated is cool. buy it you will enjoy. I suggest you get the PS3 80gb though unless you dont care about have 2 usb and have no bc to play Ps2 games and no memery card sopport Sd chip and memery duo sopport ect.i would get the 80gb becuase it is the highest model and has all the features for $100 more and i can still play my PS2 games and give my PS2 to my brother. 60gb model is the best because it has full capabilty to PS2 games but it is the same price as the 80gb and 80gb comes with a free game. Im not a xbox hater but its techology and disk space can maybe hold the system for about another year and the games on 360 will be very short or they would have to put the game on many disk or sacrife the graphics and sound. And PS3 is just better.

This is my cut and paste answer. The reason for that is because a tech info is a tech info, you can't beat it (sources below).

PS3 will win the console war, no doubt. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won't be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, isn't even announced for Wii - this toy won't be able to cope with the game's requirements. Xbox 360 is getting GTA IV, however, the game is going to be released on several DVDs - Xbox 360 owners will have to interrupt gaming process and switch discs (Rockstar complained about this issue). Only PS3 will have it on single BD-DVD.

Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:

Graphics are stronger in PS3, due to RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. RSX runs on 550 Mhz. It's difficult to compare their graphics chips, because 360 has a video chip with totally different structure and operating memory is divided differently in both consoles. However, PS3 exclusives look better than 360's exclusives.

PS3 uses technology from AGEIA company. It does to physics of the game same thing GPU (videocard processor) does to graphics. This thing is on sale for PC(special card). The price is around 350$. There is no such thing in 360.

Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 15 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it. That's why in some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.

The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console. Biggest games weigh only 25 GB (Xbox 360 will need more than 3 discs even for those).

On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.

PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 250 GB will cost you around 170$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.

Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. There is a cheaper 40GB version of PS3.

Sony constantly upgrades PS3 software (free updates for OS) - you get new functions and improvements.

PS3 controller (sixaxis) has a motion control - you move controller - game responds. Wii has it, Xbox 360 - doesn't. PS3 is getting rumble controller (Dualshock 3) in 1st quarter 2008, Japan gets it in this November.

On PS3 you can help sick people by running Folding Home project. Wii and Xbox 360 didn't even think about it.

New 40GB is 399$ or 399 euro (depends on the region) - it has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games, has 2 USBs instead of 4, no built-in card reader, but it's the same PS3, strong, reliable, less noisy, different cooling system. The price is friendly.

I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it. Leave it for kindergarten and casual games.
