Joel Osteen can be classified as a motivational speaker, Joel makes alot of promises that only God can make, We shouldn't go to church so that WE can feel better about ourselves, we need to sincerely understand Gods word, Joel doesn't do alot of direct scripture teaching from the Bible.

Hi Mike!
Joel Olsteen became the Pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston Tx. after his father stepped down. He isn't considered a priest but a "pastor or preacher". I attend a very large non-denominational church myself and love it. It is just a lot of people from various backgrounds, many Catholic like you, myself Baptist. The good thing about non-denom. churches is that they preach and believe the bible and nothing else. THere isn't any man-made rituals or parts of the bible that they leave out or think is more important than others. If it isn't in the bible they don't believe it. Keeps things simple. Joel must be doing something right - he has one of the bigget churches in the world!!!

I am non-denominational. Joel Osteen has a good message to the church. But so does the bible. The message of the cross is the centerpiece of christianity. The church is blessed with many gifted people. But the Holy Spirit is our ultimate teacher.

I love hearing him talk. He is inspiring, and in a world full of bitterness and negative people, I find him sooo refreshing. The Bible talks about many different gifts. One of those is evangelism. I think many people hear Joel, and get down on him because he is using the gift of "encouragement", but they think he should be evangelising. Really, just like you and me, he is only responsible to God for using the gifts and talents He gave him. But in as much as my opinion matters (it doesn't), I think he is a great encourager, and if he lifts you up, good for you and good for him!

BTW, his father, whom a few people have mentioned, was John Osteen, and he was an AMAZING speaker and preacher! I used to get up early so I wouldn't miss him on TV.

And a last thought... when Jesus was here, his biggest opponents were the "established spiritual leaders", who were forever challenging Him and trying to discredit Him.

He's a Charismatic whose evangelical roots were in Pentecostalism. However, his message differs significantly from the True Gospel of Christ, in that Pastor Osteen teaches self-love, which pampers the flesh, for health, wealth, & overall success in this world. Christ teaches to love God, setting aside our flesh through repentance, and subsequently being infilled with the Holy Spirit to be saved and to do His work in His kingdom. I don't find any evidence where Pastor Osteen has preached the True Gospel. Be wary of what you fill your mind with ~ We want to lay all thoughts and imaginations in obedience to Christ, not an ordinary man.

He is a non-denominational Protestant Pastor at Lakewood Church in Texas.

My opinion of him is that he is more of a motivational speaker than a theologian. In other words, he can psych you up, but his message is a little shallow. He's not a bad person, but I do not think that he is all that deep.

He inherited the church from his Daddy,,,who was a good preacher,,,and had a following long before Joel came along. I think Joel really believes what he peaches but pretty wordd, do not convict people of their sin,,nor does it lead to many altar calls.

He's a good guy. There's nothing evil about a christian preaching the true message of christ. Love, self empowerment, and hope. The evangelist, will tell you otherwise.

I have listened to him on occasion, but I have never heard him preach the gospel of Jesus
Christ.He preaches a prosperity gospel.There
are many TV evangelists that are teaching and
preaching this type of gospel today. They never
tell you how to be saved and on your way to
heaven from the word of God.

I think he is in an awesome preacher. Called by God to preach and just did it. He went to some schooling but he's not a certain denomination. Just Holy Ghost filled and chosen by the Lord to preach. I like him. Alot of times people think preachers on TV are just phony and don't know their history or care to know. For instance TD jakes was poor and praying in the rain for his power not to be shut off for many years and these people who have to learn to stand on God's promises all alone.....with no church back up and no Parish house.........Well they end up prospering when they stand the tests God puts in front of them and it's NOT easy. why don't you study the history on him I am sure you can ask Jeeves.
