I have two male cats, age 10 and 4. They seem to be very good friends. Sometimes the older one will lick the forehead of the younger when they are settling down for a nap. The younger one loves it --really blisses out and purrs so loudly. Anyone ever observe this? Thanks.

I have 2 male non-related cats and they groom each other, usually the younger one grooms the most. The old cat purrs away like your cats do and then falls asleep. It reminds me of when I go to the hairdresser and almost fall asleep when the stylist is working in my hair. At least I don't hack up a hairball after wards.!!

Yes, I do. I have 3 cats, 2 females and a male and one of the females grooms the 2 other ones. It's so cute. It's like a mother washing her babies but my male is 15 years old and the 2 females are 2 years and 1 year and a half.

I also have two male cats. One is about 2.5 and the other is just over a year old. 90% of the time they are doing one of four things:

1) Licking each other,
2) Chasing each other,
3) Actively ignoring each other, or
4) Sleeping!

I'm coming back as a male cat in my next life! lol

My two girl kitties (1 and 2 y/o) will go find their big brother (3) after a nap just for some grooming. He licks all over their heads and necks and they nuzzle into his chin and purr. Its the sweetest thing ever!! He got really sick about a month ago and one of the things we considered before starting his $1500 diagnostic/treatment was...what would our little girls do without him?! And now we're all home, healthy and happy.

I used to have a cat that thought it was her job to groom the other cat. She would get into a zone while licking, and finally the other cat would have enough and swat the you know what out of her!!!

Yep, all 3 of mine groom each other and various times. Funny, someone else mentioned that their cats groom the dog...only once in a while, but Carrie the pug tries to groom the cats--but they usually want none of that! :)

Of course! When I was younger, I had two male cats that did this all the time.

of course it's called social grooming. it's done b/w friends and sometimes b/w hierarchies (youngest grooming the alpha). it's a sign of trust and friendship.

my two - 2 year old boys do it though of course Alex always bite the crap out of tiger when tiger gets' to the "bliss" stage. lol so funny b/c tiger falls for it every time.

it's normal and let them do it.
