They add the texture you want for colored drawings so it's all consistent, and doesn't look like you forgot a place even though it is white in the picture. You also can lighten up a shade that is too dark by coloring it white first. And then there is different colors of paper, silly...where it does show up.

That's hilarious! I guess you're right in that it takes more effort to find a good use for white crayons, but they're great for colored paper and I remember projects in school where we would draw seemingly "invisible" designs with white crayons on white paper and then watercolor over them. Suddenly, we could see our designs through the color.

:) Thanks for the funny anecdote. I read somewhere recently that the world needs more stories--thanks for the contribution!

well if you get like a coloring book that doesn't have white pages it helps but no its not meant for like printer paper also recycled paper it might show up on too and I've done this a couple times where you draw a bunch of stars on a regular piece of paper and them take a marker and color over them it looks so cool

Blending and highlighting. If you're using crayons to shade, and using a variety of colors, a good way to smooth them out is to go over them with the white crayon. You can also put the white crayon down first in areas you want to look 'lighter' before you go over it with your color of choice. It adds depth to your coloring.

Sometimes you color on paper that is not white, then the white ones show up, or you have to add a little white over other colors.

as for kids using them, i'm not sure... i know that if you use white crayons on regular coloring books like newsprint paper they show up. Unless it's an off brand of crayon. I know that Crayola white shows up pretty well, while white from brands like RoseArt doesn't work very good. ;)

Good luck!! Tell her they're for coloring ghosts... lol (okay, maybe you shouldn't tell her that... lol)

They are for serious crayon artists who like to highlight and tint the colors. Also - yes, black construction paper - Halloween ghosts, skeletons...

Lots. Just don't use it on white paper. But on dark paper it makes things stand out.

If you press hard enough on the crayon, you can add texture to paper. Or to lighten darker colors or colored paper.
