Albinism is not a disease. It's a genetic condition in which people have little or no pigment in their eyes, skin, or hair. They have inherited genes that do not make the usual amounts of a pigment called melanin.

People with albinism live normal life spans and have the same types of general medical problems as everyone else, so no special medications are necessary.

Albinism is the complete absence of pigmentation. In humans, the skin is white, the eyes deep pinkish-red. There is no cure, and it's genetic rather than an illness people could catch.

Albinos have no protection when it comes to sunlight. They're prone to eye and skin problems if they do not adequately protect themselves when outdoors in daylight.
