I am currently living out of the country and having not been as close as I used to with my best friend. I would like to just have all my friends as bridesmaids and not pick one for maid of honor, are people doing this theses days?

The maid or matron of honor (aside from being your best friend, sister, cousin whatever) is usually the one who adjusts your long veil at the alter and in general assists you as much as possible, if you make prior arrangements with one or two of the bridesmaids to handle these matters than, It's your day and why not do as you please........

The maid of honor and the best man are the witnesses. You would still have to find a way to designate one of the bridesmaids for this task. Maid of honor also has other tasks like taking your bouquet when you are at the alter, arranging your train, making a toast at your reception etc.

Your plan sounds fine to me. I was married 19 years ago and had 2 attendants- my best friend and my sister. My best friend was my Matron of Honor (and she was 7 mos pregnant when I got married).

I am not sure if you need one of the bridesmaids to act as a witness (sign a document). You can pick one to do that. Otherwise, it's your wedding. Do what you think is best for you.

Sure you can do that... However you will need to choose the lineup and which one takes your bouquet, holds the ring, and signs the marriage license, which ultimately makes that person the maid of honor... although you could divide those duties up between them all and then there wouldn't be an unstated maid of honor.

You can call them whatever you want. But whoever stands next to you will be considered your maid of honor.

Sure, its your wedding. Ettiquite tends to mandate that you pick the bridesmaid that will be the most available to help anyway.

Who's wedding is it anyways? It's your wedding, if you don't have someone that you feel is close to you or due the recognition then who cares. Have fun enjoy your new life with your husband and be happy.
