No - Feed him the same thing that he's been fed by the breeder or whoever you got him from. If you want to soften it, use a little warm water.
Changing his food will only give him diarrhea...

Absolutely not! Contrary to the myth that dogs can eat anything, they have a fairly delicate GI system, and a change in diet can upset them. Couple that with the trauma of going to a new home... well, you get the idea.
Find out what the puppy has been eating (reputable breeders will send along a couple days of food) and keep the puppy on that diet until things settle down a bit. If you do decide to change food, then do it gradually by mixing a little more of the new food in with the present food each day.
One more thing... feed your puppy quality puppy food. A puppy's nutritional needs are different from that of an adult dog.

Most young puppies will need to be fed around 4 small meals a day at regular intervals, as their tiny stomachs cannot cope with anything larger. As they get older you can reduce the number of meals per day – follow the food manufacturer’s recommendations on the packet or the breeder’s directions on the diet sheet.
If your puppy has come from a Rehoming Centre, you will probably be given a supply of ‘complete’ dry puppy food, which is perfectly adequate and doesn’t require any further supplementation.
If your puppy has come from a breeder, you will probably have a diet sheet to follow. If you wish, you can make a gradual change to a diet of your choice but not immediately. Give your puppy time to settle in first.

Nope. A good quality dry kibble (or soaked a bit in warm water, if you'd like) appropriate for the puppy's size is perfectly fine.
I can't think of any reason to feed a puppy canned food.

I have always been told to feed them what the breeder was feeding them, then slowly mix in the new food. If you change it too quickly it's hard on the stomachs. Going to a new home is stressful for a new pup regardless of what they are eating.

no, you should feed them the food the breeder was feeding them so they dont get a upset stomach, sometimes yes they may stop eating but changing food can make it worse, just leave food out for a little bit if they dont eat it take it away and offer again in a hour or so. they will eat when tehre hungry.

I always fed every puppy I had dry puppy food with water on it just enough to make it soggy.

feed it what your breeder did for a week or so then slowly switch to the food you want to use. Go to dogfoodanalysis.com to research foods.
