Caveat: READ THE CONTRACT!!!
Does it say you are GUARANTEED Ranger school? Or does it say you are guaranteed an application to the school.
It seems rather obtuse to expect automatic admittance to an elite force because some enlisted guy in a recruiting office says you want it. Granted, there sure seem to be a lot of "Ranger" patches displayed, but it certainly can't be all that easy. It's entirely possible you could wash out. If the Army were to write contracts guaranteeing a position for which you're not qualified, they would be paying to train and kick out lots of guys.
Just a thought. I know a guy who recruits for SWCC and SEAL. He tells them what to do to prepare. He tests them. And if they pass the test, then they can try for those specialties. But he doesn't GUARANTEE them anything. No good recruiter does.

BE CAREFUL...here's how it works. It doesn't matter whether Ranger school is in your contract or not. They'll give it to you and it'll be like taking a drink out of a FIREHOSE. The chances of a new recruit making Ranger is very low and here's the catch - if you don't make it, it's you who has voided the contract and all bets are off and you go where they want you to go - period. If you want to be elite and be the best trained, go Marines. They have the toughest bootcamp in the world, 4 weeks longer than the Army and Marines without question are the best trained when deployed to Iraq. Get in and get your feet wet; do at least one tour and get used to military life for 18 months and then go for the tough stuff. Been there done that. Need more help and want to talk; email me.

You go to Ranger school after basic training. But they only from the Ranger school, pick the few best to be a Ranger out of the entire training outfit. Marines was 2 %. I was in force recogn in the Marines, but was not choose to be a Ranger. Army is the Green Berets and the Marines is a Ranger for the elite. Navy are the Sea Bees. Was lucky got to parachute with the Golden Nights which were the very elite.

BCT or AIT is nothing compared to Ranger school. It's very very intense, you have confidence so I'm sure your up to it then. I'm sure if your a good soldier and you have at least sharp shooter and great pt scores then you should be fine. You will get into Ranger School. Ask yourself that, because your the only one that knows. Are you phsyically and mentally capable of it? If you don't want to be just a "normal soldier" join the marines. It's more intense. I prefer the army although. It all depends on what you want to get out of it. Good luck and be sure as to what your signing yourself up for...

What is the difference in your mind between a ranger and a marine? You want to be "special". All services have special warfare groups and quite frankly, once in special warfare, you will be working in a multi-service environment often. If you have already signed with the Marine Corps please honor your obligation to them. You will learn just as much as a ranger. Request Recon with the corps, specifically request schools for special weapons and tactics. By the way I am a Navy veteran who worked with special warfare and feel the SEALs are the best. But you do what you want. The Army recruiter is just telling you what you want to hear to make his quota for the month.

You make certain that Ranger School is on your contract. If it is not there they will not send you--you'll have to start trying to convince your new unit to send you.
If you want it, and if the recruiter said he could deliver make certain it says so on the contract. If it's not there and your're serious that this is what you want, do NOT sign it until they put it there.

If it's in the contract you're good but you'll have to be infantry to lock it in otherwise hell anybody can go to the school I'm an electronics repairman and I can go to the school but that don't make me a ranger.

Upon entry, your records will be determined whether you are qualified to be a Ranger. Thus, make the best record that you have but you must be able to support it with your mental and physical capability.

since your mind is so set on the army, instead of the marines, get used to the idea of a lack of skills in survival and training that you should have had prior to going over to iraq
